2023 IX M60 Highway Assist worked in the UK ??

Freak or Feature ???

Prior to last weekend, I would have said that there is no highway assist self drive function on the IX in the UK - absolutely!

BUT!

Driving out of London on Saturday early evening on the A1 Motorway, I had Self guiding cruise set to 68Mph and i noticed that there was no request at all for hands on the steering wheel? No indicator or flashing LEDs on the steering wheel??
I even used the indicators for overtakes etc but it sailed on its own - no problem totally hands free!

More freakily, the Route Guidance/Cruise moved the car over to the inside lane on its own ahead of the navigation exit junction and took the Slip Road at Welwyn before I bottled it and took over control??

I've never experienced that before but I also very rarely set 68Mph - but it was for a good 10 Miles or so??

I've tried this setting since - not on the same stretch of road as that was a special trip - it was on the M1 & M6 yesterday - but the usual "Hands On" nagging came back.

I have no idea if this was a glitch or true functionality - it got my hopes up but i think it may have been a freak set of circumstances or something??

Or maybe the A1M is 5G Mapped as per the pre-requisit in the USA?? I do not know.

The only thing I did notice is that when I started my drive in teh morning, the IX reported that the Vehicle Maps were updated overnight!

Anyone else had the same??

Would be great to gain the same certification as the MachE for UK Motorways!

that's cool. When Highway Assistant (or what its actually called in the car "Assisted Drive Plus") is engaged in my 24 iX it gives me a disclaimer on the right display that I have to press OK on to get rid of. Did that pop up for you?
Was yours ordered when Highway Assist was an option? My M60 was built with every option in June 2022 or so, highway assist wasn't an option. I'm not running the latest software, as I dread dealer visits and haven't seen any OTA for a while. That being said, no-- I get nagged if going above 40 on a highway in the USA.

When I see people posting of a new version, that is when I'll book my dealer visit to get the software update. For now, I think I'm on 11/2022.64 or so, OTA updated from .44 in March.

Yes my M60 was ordered with it.

Hey OP, can you confirm that you have a 2023 iX? I didn't think Highway Assistant was even possible unless you had a 2024 model. I'd be very intrigued if merely a map update could somehow enable this for you. Maybe it was just a fluke?

No Disclaimer Popup for me?
My build was one of the very last MY2023 M60's and seem to have all the latest updates such as Manual Battery Preheating etc but there is nothing I have seen specific to Highway Assist??
Yes my M60 was ordered with it.
Do you have the Build Code for the Driving Assistance pack on your M60?

Mine is ..
5AU
Driving Assistant Professional
Mine is also 5AU, 7th March build, but no sign of Highway Assist
So I can confirm that this evening I drove hands free at 69 mph on dual carriageway and then 60 mph on an A road only dropping out when I approach a LH junction.

No message to acknowledge - cruises and follows without any steering input or grab.

Doesn’t look like a fluke? For now anyway??

I checked the Store and there are no options to purchase except Speed cameras and although I searched for highway assistant - the information is very blurred - some indicating a later head unit is required and then other sites contradict as it’s in ID8??

who knows TBH??

Question - how can you determine the ID8 Hardware Level fitted in the vehicle.

Wow!! This could potentially be really huge news. Maybe BMW is unlocking this feature for 2023's and you've accidentally gotten early access??!?!? (Crossing my fingers this is the case!!)

Maybe you can share your VIN with someone like @Hugo_nz who has the access to the databases to look it up for you?
@Croddlebopper - what map version are you on now? Mine is:

Road Map EUROPE Joy 2022-4 101072226.3.00, C 23w04.5-1
I think I read on this forum that folks in Canada were being offered Highway assistant (AKA driver assistant plus) for purchase in the connected drive store. So that’s great news for the 22 and 23 folks!

So since May 19th I have not managed to get sustained self driving to work even though I’ve done around 400 mile since.

maybe it’s a glitch with my steering wheel ??

when I saw the initial press reviews of the IX, the hand pressure on the steering wheel had to be in the top half of the wheel, whereas on mine the pressure can be anywhere N,S,E or West

Hand pressure can be anywhere. On long trips I often use just my knee or the back of my hand and it detects as a touch. If apply the right pressure I get so relaxed that I literally forget I’m even driving. It’s such a wonderful system. I’m completely satisfied with the current DAPP system even not having Highway Assist!!
