BMW has revealed their flagship electric SUV, the iX, showcasing their continued push into the EV market.

Production is set to begin in the second half of 2021 and it will reach the United States in early 2022.

Here are 5 things you need to know about the iX from its world premiere.

1) The iX will share similar dimensions with the X5 and X6.

The iX will not be a small compact SUV. In fact, BMW says that the iX’s overall length and width will be comparable to the X5, somewhere around 194 inches and 79 inches and the height will be close to the X6 (66.8-inches).

The iX’s 118 inche wheelbase is 0.9 inches longer than the current X5.

2) BMW says the iX will have a 300 mile range

The iX will be BMW’s contender as a long range EV.

BMW claims that the iX will have a range of 300 miles based on the EPA’s on the EPA’s FTP-75 test procedure.They also say the iX can charge from 10-80% in under 40 minutes with 200kW DC fast charging.

3) The iX will have plenty of horsepower

The iX will not be a slouch when it comes to performance. BMW says the iX will be driven by two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear.

The two motors will produce 500 horsepower and launch the iX from 0-62 mph in under 5 seconds.

4) The iX has a hexagonal steering wheel

One of the iX’s most unique styling features is the new hexagonal steering wheel.

According to BMW, the hexagon design improves ease of access into the iX along with seating comfort. They also say the new steering wheel gives the driver a better view of the curved display that’s directly behind it.

5) The iX has BMW’s first curved display

As part of the iX’s minimalistic interior design, it will debut BMW’s first curved display in a production vehicle.

The display is designed to maximize interior space and it will combine the 14.9 inch curved center touchscreen with the 12.3 inch digital instrument screen to make a single unit.
