A serious accident involving an autonomously labeled Test BMW iX in Germany leaves one dead and 8 heavily injured It is unclear what happened and if any autonomous features were activated, but the iX steered into oncoming traffic twice

Tesla fans seem to be going after Green Hills software as the CEO of that company posted those videos of the Tesla stuff not stopping for children last week.

"BMW confirmed that one of its test vehicles was involved in a collision near Reutlingen, but denied that the vehicle was fully autonomous.

'The vehicle has a level 2 driving assistance system that is already incorporated in production vehicles today and which can support the driver on demand,' the company said. 'With level 2 vehicles the driver always retains responsibility.'

BMW added that the vehicle was required to be marked as a test car for data protection purposes, because it was recording footage."

Yeah it’s certainly been sensationalised in the media (as always is around the autonomous part). I’d more interested to know if the driver was using any driver aids at the time such as lane assist etc (or immediately prior).
The photos of the car damage are pretty scary, I know the roof was cut off but the bonnet crushed quite a bit. I’ve revised the NCAP safety crash videos and I’m still excited to get mine in Oct. Cars are scary when you think about them too much anyway.
