I’m finding that whenever I walk into the garage (which happens a lot!) with my phone on me with digital key enabled the AC charging pauses as the car automatically unlocks. It does start again when it auto relocks , but it’s a bit annoying.

Is this normal behaviour or have I turned on an option that causes this?

Standard is the same on the i3 when you unlock the car only on AC charging. If it wasn't you would have to get in the car and stop charging via the menu get back out the car and unplug it ! If the car is alreday unlocked pressing the unlock button inside will also stop charging allowing you to pull out the plug. You could allways turn off your auto lock and or unlock feature

I have the car set to unlock the charge cable when It completes (eg 80%), you‘d think that would be a better solution though?

I've disabled that, OK at home but if you were at a charge point with your type 2 cable it could be stolen, unlikely but possible
Ah I see, sometimes you get chargers with just sockets on them here, but the vast majority of public chargers have Type 2 cables on them here, so it’s rare to use your own cable.

I had to turn off auto unlock for the digital key because it would unlock and lock as I walked by the garage. Unfolding really mirrors every time.
Did you disable that on the phone? Does that mean you have to hold the phone near the door handle to unlock the car?

No I disabled it on the car. Auto Unlock on approach I believe.
No it unlocks when I press the door handle and my phone is with me. So instead of my approach triggering the unlock, the press of the door handle is the trigger and it senses the phone and unlocks. Would prefer on approach but until I can disable at home as an option it has to be this way otherwise my mirrors are going to last 5 months.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Would be nice if it was an option to control this behaviour. I'm not too sure I really see a difference between how AC and DC should work to be honest, but I'm sure BMW have thought it through.

AC (generally) = at home; DC (generally) = on the road
Yep agree, just not clear why if you unlock your car with AC you want to stop automatically and with DC you let it keep charging -- the detachable cable situation is the same. Especially given that with AC most people are setting charging limits to 80% (and I do auto cable unlock when charging complete) and charge it overnight, and it's typically done by the morning.

I just don't want it stopping and starting every time I walk past the garage.

Not sure why the difference either, but I would assume the theory is, if at home - garage or next to - you might be getting in your car and going somewhere more than once daily (mailbox, mall, corner grocery), and it's just convenient to be able to unplug without going through the app or some internal menu to stop charging, as you walk up to the car. Charging on the road, with handshake/payment/startup time considerations, you wouldn’t want it to interrupt a charging session unless you were actually sure you wanted to stop.
