I forgot to add Tyre Pressure Monitors and when I went to add them my order was closed off (yes, I live in a country where these are not included by default, which annoying). Bit of an oversight for around $400 bucks extra at the time of ordering.

Does anyone know whether I will be able to add these post-delivery? I don't know whether the receive unit is already in the vehicle but without transmit units in the wheels, or whether both have to be added?

The answer will likely be yes even if Tx and Rx needs to be added - just wondering if anyone else has recovered from this situation, either with the iX or any other similar BMW model.

Unless coding can be done it will have to be dealer retrofit $$$$. I retrofitted TPMS onto my F30 340i and G01 X3. All I needed were the wheel units and then coded the car. The receiver is already built in with these cars so I’m guessing the same with the iX.

Thanks for that - if the receiver is already in the car (as was the case with your F30 340i and G01 X3) then adding the units to the wheel should be pretty straight forward - they are not expensive. I hope it's the same with the IX.

It's not only hard to get a vehicle, it's equally hard (or harder) to get hold of someone / anyone that can provide good / knowledgeable information about them (hence the need for this forum).

Thanks again.

This wasn't an option to add or not in the US. Is it included standard? I didn't pay attention for that detail because I didn't imagine that a feature that is now standard on most $30K car would not be standard on a $100K one.

Just to round this thread out .. the dealer service department thinks it's really not possible to add these post-hence (though, I'm not convinced), but it's worth noting the system still has flat tyre detection, just not tyre pressure monitoring.

I wouldn’t believe everything the dealer says

They told me the same thing. One even tried to convince me multiple times not to do it. I just told them to physically put in the new sensors as I was replacing tyres anyway and leave the rest to me.

suffice to say they were very embarrassed after when I got it to work.

Aren't the TPMS receivers part of the wheel well lining in the X5 ?

I’m not sure where the receiver actually sits, different for each car I’m guessing. I believe most if not all of the later BMW cars from at least 2016 on already have the receiver. I believe it sits somewhere in the rear of the car.

Depending on the country, you may or may not get the transmitters (ie the unit which sits in each wheel)
