My IX is on the ship. I just realized that the auto close for tailgate is "blocked". This car is loaded with all extras. Will they be able to unblock at a later date? The passenger lumbar is "deleated" which I was willing to live with. Is blocked different than deleted?

Passenger lumbar support and hands-free tailgate (the foot-opening feature) are both deleted currently. It may be possible to add one or the other later, but not confirmed or guaranteed, and likely easier to add the hands-free tailgate option (software and a sensor or two required, as opposed to possibly a new seat).

Thank you. To be clear, can you still close the tailgate automatically by pushing a button?
Correct - the delete just removed the ability to open/close the tailgate by waving your foot under the bumper. I use it all the time in my X5, but as features go something I can live without. It still opens with the key fob or the door or inside button. Spouse will miss the passenger massage function, but my impression is that even the driver massage is not that impressive. Works great on my X5 (both seats), but again something I (and spouse) can live without. And she still has her ICE X5 that she loves, so really no issue at all.

Thank you for this information. I am relieved to know this. I switched my order for a cancellation and hadn't reviewed it carefully enough. Haven't mentioned the passenger lumbar delete to my wife. I don't think she has ever used it in my Tesla and I will let sleeping dogs lie. I have owned every luxury make except Bently and BMW. After driving 2 Tesla S's for 8 years, am quite excited about this vehicle. Somehow, it hit all the right notes for me.

The tailgate kick opener is still showing as included on my build. It is not deleted at this time. The only deletion is passenger lumbar on my build.
It still shows, right now on the US configurator, as "Delete hands-free tailgate operation" with a credit for $100 for both the iX 50 and M60. It does show "power tailgate," which is not the same thing, but would likely depend on when your build was started. You might want to confirm with a Vehicle Inquiry from your dealer.

My customer advisor ran my production number in his system yesterday and the only deleted option was the passenger lumbar support. He also got a delete notice for the interior camera yesterday. He said my car would most likely be built with the kick actuator-that is close to a deal breaker for me.

I assume you ordered a 2023 iX. I've talking to a Genius a few times.
  • The passenger lumber support will not be included
  • The Hands-free "kick" tailgate sensor would be included
(BMW removed it but then removed the delete, but didn't tell anyone is back in)
- The Interior Camera will not be included.

I asked if it was just the Chips, wiring harness or camera - could it possibly be added when parts are available.
They said sorry but no.

Honestly, getting information from my SA at my dealership had been frustrating, at best.

Calling the Genius is awesome. They can answer any questions about "is this feature included in my build", "how does this work", "when it should be completed, shipped, arrive, what ship is on, etc...", very knowledgeable and very friendly to help with anything.

Re-"Genius," it sort of depends. :D There is actually a special team just for BMW's EV line (I have it somewhere). Still having problems getting my eSIM to work (as in, it doesn't), I was directed there. Just paraphrasing my most recent conversation:

Me: Hello, I need some help with my eSIM.
Genius: What's an eSIM?
Me: You know, in your cell phone, there's a chip that's connected to your service provider that allows you to make and receive calls.
Genius: Really?
Me: Yes - and they have one in the iX! Maybe you could find someone who could help me get mine to work?
Genius: Well, we're all still learning.... Have you tried rebooting it?
Me: Um, is there someone else there who's familiar with the car's connectivity features? Maybe someone who knows something about communications?
Genius: We're all in training this week....

I wished her well, and said thanks. My phone and my blood pressure were not going to survive another few minutes, but I have had productive calls, with other Geniuses in other cars. Call me an optimist, but I just suspect this car is going to take months if not years to get to that level.

Ummm... Have you tried rebooting it? What's a E-sim? 😱 You gotta be kidding me.

Does the Genius' group at your dealership know anything about it?
I would think 🤔 someone from that group could contact someone at the Genius group higher ups or even someone in Germany.

I would have done the same thing, ask for a supervisor, manager, or anyone else that might have any clue.
It is new technology but this car has been out since model year 2021-2022.

I wonder how many owners have tried to set this up. Does T- Mobile know anything about it?
I'm still on the fence on whether or not it would be worth it.

Outside of all these annoying things, what do you think of the car? The way it drives?

The car is great - consistently impressed with the drive and handling over my X5. As far as the eSIM I've almost given up. Neither T-Mobile nor BMW take any responsibility for getting it to work, or really have any collective knowledge about what it does or how to get it to operate. I've actually, on my own, managed with our local Genius (who's actually pretty good, and she and I have already solved several issues with corporate BMW), to get the card activated (took about a week), to get it connected for data sharing (about another week), but so far after several weeks can't figure out how to get it to transmit calls (receives calls and texts just fine, just can't call out). I'm more convinced it's a T-Mobile problem, and they actually have a "Magenta Drive" team whose expertise is in name only, but I know more about their product than they do right now. I keep hoping to hit on a real expert, but so far no joy. I keep the SIM blocked in the car so I can make and receive calls, but then I'm paying $20 a month for a service I don't have. Still fiddling, but time will tell; I may just cancel the service and wait for developments - there is a portable SIM reader coming, already available in Europe, and it would be nice to use the car's antenna for calls. The SIM in my X5 worked great, but that was an AT&T service. Still learning about the car and it's quirks, but so far really impressed with this - sort of - first effort by BMW, in spite of corporate incompetence (read - battery recall at al), very slow software development and correction, and a generally poor rollout and support of the product.

My iPhone is with AT&T for way too many years(i hate dealing with. I'm going to be stopping by the local T-Mobile store within the next few weeks to talk about porting phones over as well as this E-Sim/BMW partnership. I'll see if anyone at T-mobile has any clue on how to make it work. If I get any pertinent information, I'll let you know.

Yes mine is a 2023. Built September 26, the only delete was passenger lumbar to my knowledge. The genius has been very helpful, but I am frustrated because my car is still sitting at the port in Germany waiting for a ship, and no one can (or will) tell me when it's booked to cross the pond....as my trade diminishes in value and interest rates continue to rise.......I am running out of patience.

Is you car waiting on SW updates for the two recalls? Mine sat at port in Germany for approximately 14 weeks because of this, and they wound up shipping and doing the software update in NJ, anyway.
