Has anyone experienced their iX randomly accelerate when the car is in B Mode? This has happened to us 2 times since the latest update... The most recent was when going through a traffic circle and all of a sudden the car just took off. The pedal was not depressed :).

Thanks

I thought I was imagining things… this has happened to me twice over the past few weeks in B mode. Both times, I was rounding a corner at roughly neutral throttle (or light regen) when suddenly the car started accelerating on me. Quickly hitting the brakes stopped the acceration, but it definitely startled me and my passengers.

This is potentially a very serious problem. I would encourage you to report it to the NHTSA (Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA) as soon as possible.
Thank you for that. I called the dealer and they were like we can test drive it….

Im a software developer. I know what reproducible errors vs random. A test drive isn’t going to easily identify it.

Not experienced this and I use B mode exclusively, would agree this is a potentially very dangerous issue and id urge you to report it to both NHTSA and BMW NA directly.
Might have to avoid using B now just in case very concerning.

Have noticed the car sometimes wrongly changes the Road speed limit on the HUD from 30mph road speed limit to 80mph road speed limit when using drive assist, then the car accelerates away. Have to use the break or turn the driver assist button off on the steering wheel. Think probably a software issue in the Nav system. Has happened in both B and D drive.

Oooh... that's (very) nasty. I like B mode because it asks as a brake at slow speed, which is good. I'm now wondering whether this could happen at any speed ... or is it happening when the car was moving (pedal was depressed) and then released to neutral position? E.g. I've been using B mode when manoeuvring out of a tight car space. If it accelerates there, that's not going to be pretty. Given the acceleration in the IX50 is pretty awesome, it would not be awesome if that happens.

Yes, please report ASAP. Having the dealer test it will be useless (unless it happens while they drive it, which it won't) - just the mere fact of raising it should immediately institute a code review.

I've also noticed the speeds in the HUD are not always correct. If that is used to automatically change the speed ... that's not a good idea.

I noticed that If i previously used the cruise control and cancel it by breaking into a corner or roundabout and when turning the steering wheel accidently press the "set" button, then it picks the previous speed up and the car will accelerate.

Same to me. If you have set to automatically adapt the road speed as suggested by the navigation/cam recognition, it happens that car accelerate or break without any raison.
I turn this option off. Speed can only apply when I push the set button now.

Have you had the latest update ? I also had this and have driven through the same 30mph limit and it hasn't jumped to 80 (yet)

On all the other comments I'm assuming people are driving with assist off ? In D adaptive the few times I've used it when it will slow you down into corners when it decides theres no corner quicky accelerates back to set speed

I walked through the two situations my wife experienced - again I trust her input as she’s a very good driver.

No cruise control. B mode on. In town driving around 15-20 mph. Going around a turn. It jumped 10+ mph instantly.

My daughter said it was like the car was possessed or “you know- how you drive daddy”. Nice.

What I already got and may be an explanation is following:
Driving with speed limit on, you push the accelerator but it keeps you on your 'speed-limit' setting.
Before you are aware, you pushed the accelerator a little bit more and your car is interpreting this as a kick down.
With the available power, your car is pushing forward with a big surprise.

I have an alternate theory, because it happened twice to me. Just like the other two owners descriptions, mine also involved turning or getting ready to turn.

I was in B mode slowing up (in slight regen mode--foot clearly off of accelerator). Headed down a slight incline getting ready to turn into my gated driveway. Eyes were clearly on the road so I wasn't looking at center display...or paying attention to heads-up display. When the unexpected acceleration occurred I instinctively stepped on brake to stop it. I took no notice of any interior display. My theory is that the culprit is the power button for the Assisted Driving/Distance Control being accidentally touched (not the Set button mentioned by the other owner) while turning.

Have you tried to test this theory in a safe and obstacle free environment?

Not sure what the test would be. Anytime that power button is pressed (or slightly touched) it engages the Assisted Driving/Distance Control mode (and accelerates to last speed limit notice) whether or not the iX is turning...even at slow/moderate speeds while in B mode. (But, yes, all of the above happens when I knowingly touch that button.)

This was ultimately my theory too- I use cruise control often (so there was probably a higher speed pre-set), and it sure felt like a cruise control activation. I find it a little difficult to believe I somehow hit the button (particularly because a minor annoyance of mine is how hard I need to press the cruise control button to activate it), but that's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

I am going to pay closer attention going forward and will report the issue if it happens again.

If someone can easily recreate this issue, getting a hold of BMW EV technician with factory scanner tool set for recording will help our development team. So far I'm reading mixed reviews about this issue.
Regarding navigation maps there will be coming a lot of updates and fine tuning on the can bus side
