Does anyone know if the iX is capable of bi-directional charging? Looks like it’s possible to use EV battery as a back-up for the home in emergencies but must be approved by the manufacturer. Thinking about installing the Dcbel R16 bi-directional charger but can’t find anything online that says the iX is programmed to allow it. (The other type is V2G that allows you to sell back unused electric to the grid and must also be allowed via software). I am in the US.

Need to think that the cost vs a dedicated house battery is going to look poor.
All those extra cycles will wear the battery until new battery tech emerges. And these are not budget cars.

The tesla model X we traded out of had only done 56k miles (ie cica 200 cycles), but the battery had lost 6-7%+ of the range from new.

No, I think you need to looking at the Ionic 5 which has this feature
Sorry wrong on that the Ionic allows the battery to supply 230V AC
There have been trials with some Nissan Leaf's in UK I believe with charge back to the grid I think the rate per kWh would need to be very worthwhile to get owners aboard, I expect what you give in the peak time would be replensished in the night plus what you need for the next day. As Laix said battery storage using off peak electricity or solar panels the better option.

How old was the X after 56k miles?
I have a Mercedes Hybrid car where the battery lost about 5 to 6% of his capacity per year!

So just adding an update here for anyone else interested. Unfortunately the iX does not currently have bi-directional charging capability. My BMW dealer tells me it is under testing in Germany and may be installed in later model. I’m a bit surprised that this car so fully loaded with modern tech does not have this feature, as the Tesla, Nissan Leaf, and upcoming US Ford 5-150 truck all do. Rivian will have it as well. Still excited for my iX but starting to think about what’s next.

Thanks for the latest update. I was looking for the answer to this question, and your reply helped me here. Please if you get any further information on this.
