At a base price of £74,000, more than £20,000 above the US price, I'll be intersted to see what the UK sales are like.

And by the way, the petrol version 5, is apparently also £23,000 less than the i5.

In the excitment, perhaps there is a muddle with the prices so soon after launch?

@anthonye Not a mistake with the UK pricing. The 5 series is aimed at company car drivers in the UK, so the i5 will "sell" without problems to lease companies who will simply lease the cars to those eligible for company cars. Throw in the vastly reduced tax for company car drivers who choose electric vs petrol/diesel versions of the same car, and it's a no brainer to get.
Thank you for that interesting insight, which dosen't help non company owners.

If you can sell your product for £54K then asking for £74K is certainly questionable. As for the electric version being £23K more than the petrol version; it is hardly pushing a green agenda. I would have thought this more pressing than vegan seats.

@anthonye Batteries are expensive and it's pretty standard these days that electric versions of ICE equivalents cost more to build (especially in the EU) and are priced at a premium. It will take several years before EV and ICE cars reach parity. Car makers are not charities, if they have invested in R&D to make an electric car, they are going to want to be able to make a margin on their new cars too.
I am not disputing or against either point, just that the differential is typically £5-10K and if there is a margin for them on US car prices, why do UK ones have to be £20K more? Just because thay can? I just think no one likes the feeling of being ripped off.

@anthonye I don't think anyone apart from BMW themselves can answer your question, as they are the ones who have come up with the pricing in different markets.

Maybe you can email BMW UK and ask them, and share their response on here once you receive it.
That was really hard to watch. These kinds of terrible videos happen when a company breathes too much of its own bullshit and its board members live a life disconnected from reality.

I agree, that was one of the worst promo pieces I have ever seen, just a waste of time, I watched to the end hoping it would get better but it didn't
