BMW iX worth this much (>$100k)?

I placed the order for BMW iX with the dealer here in USA. And the build is priced at $103,775. Expected delivery date is Jun/Jul 2022.

Build: Build Your Own Car: Luxury Car Customizer by BMW USA

Question: Is this car worth this much? Curious how much others are spending on this and how you feel about the price. I'm impressed with all its reviews so far. Not a fan of Tesla Model X because of its build quality issues and not so good interior for its price.

I wish it was that price here I paid £114,000 about $155,000

Curious what your build looks like. Can you share it? Have you got the delivery? How do you like it?

Here is the Spec. had the car over a month now, very quick especially 70 mph and above
Air suspension makes for a really smooth ride, uses a fair amont of juice best I've got so far is 2.7miles/kWh on a 150 mile run average from new 2.4 BMW state 2.3 average. Short runs consumption typically 2.1 miles/kWh, useful there is a non resetable "from factory" consumption avaerage display
Sound system mind blowing

It's worth as much as the person wants to pay for it. Mine was 105k + 10% tax. We have every feature except the bronze exterior bits. It's worth it to me. At least I'll get 7500 back.

No doubt, it is a very expensive car, but it is the closest thing to a flying carpet ever built. On my last trip to Germany I went to a friendly dealership and even though I identified myself as an American customer who already bought one, they gave me the key to an IX 50 sport and two hours of time. I felt I spent the two hours on a different planet. Just effortless power at almost any speed in a calm super designed high tech atmosphere. On a no speed limit stretch on the autobahn I could see the shock of the driver in front of me cruising at 90 mph while I approached him fast on the left lane from behind. When he looked in his back mirror he must have expected a low sportscar and not a massive BMW grill. At the same time the car allows and encourages to coast at 70 mph. It must be the most comfortable way to travel coast to coast and enjoy the beautiful country. That's why I ordered him on one side of the country and drive him home to the other.

Sounds great! Surprisingly this is how most people are reviewing the car. As the best driving experience and luxury. Can't wait to get my hands behind the wheel soon.
With all the comforts the vehicle offers, the given price is fine, especially when the same model costs around $150K in some regions of the world due to export duties and their local taxes.

I ordered one about a week ago with a summer build. Looking at your config I have a couple of suggestions, based on many of the reviews I have watched and read. The luxury package crystal buttons cause issues with blinding when sunny out, something to consider. Several reviewers also said that the B&W is marginally better than the H&K and not worth the $3400 upgrade. Finally, I would go for the 22" wheels, you get better range and there are tire choices (both performance and all season), with the 21" wheels there is only 1 tire choice and it is isn't cheap.

But of course, build it the way you want it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate it. But my vehicle status already shows as "in production" so I may not be able to make any changes at this point.
  • I had to go with the luxury package because I wanted to have the soft close doors. Unfortunately, they come only in that package.
  • I didn't know about B&W sound system being only marginally better. For that price, I thought it would be way better (and of course, like most others I have music On all the time while driving). I would have stayed away from it if I knew.
  • I initially wanted to get the 22" wheels for better range. But they only come in Performance and not All season. I live in the Seattle area where its mostly rainy and the sales guy recommended me to go with All season for that reason.
I am not too far from you. I live in Vancouver, WA and Friday Harbor, WA, so I go through Seattle at least twice a month. I generally run dedicated snow tires. Here is my build spec. Build Your Own Car: Luxury Car Customizer by BMW USA

On the sounds system and the crystals, I don't have any first hand knowledge other than watching a lot of reviews.

My current X5 45e has the crystal gear knob. No issues with sun reflection whatsoever and I am on Southern California. The reviewers have no experience of this and chose to speculate. I ordered the crystal seat adjuster with my iX

When you consider the Tesla X is almost $20-30k more in price, I think the price is fair. Of course it is expensive, but once you do your research on EV’s including things such as feature differences, range, etc, I can understand why the price is so high. For me, one of the important factors between a Tesla X and the IX50 was..service. The nightmare stories I read and hear from my friends who own or no longer own a Tesla, we’re mainly around fit and finish and…..service. Especially if you were not in a major city hub. BMW dealerships and service centers, at least here in the U.S are pretty common. BMW is renowned for their service, Tesla, not so much. My hope is I will never need the assistance of the BMW service department beyond normal maintenance (whatever that might be for and EV), but like good health insurance, it good to know it’s there and hopefully you never have to use it.

HI,
I was actually one of the first to take delivery of the BMW IX 50. I have had mine for over a month now. It is the most expensive car that i have ever owned (I got it fully loaded). I can tell you that it is ABSOLUTELY worth every penny. In fact, when most people hear how much I have spent on this car, they think im crazy,,,until they actually go for a ride in the car. The build quality makes the Tesla (I have driven all the models) feel like a cheap toy.

How long did you wait for your IX after you placed the order?
I got really lucky. I have an BMW X3 PHEV. They had a national recall on the car. Believe it or not the car was in Service for 6 months!!. I was considering an IX but the wait was too long (this was in late Feb of this year). My sales guy told me that a family member of one of the top BMW Corporate executives had just cancelled an order. It was actually one of the first IX's for US delivery. Not only that, It was spec'ed almost exactly the way I would have ordered it--actually exactly now. I wasn't going to get the 22 inch wheels (which it had),,,and now Im glad I have them. Anyway, I was told I was one of the first in US to receive the car. The IX had a national release date in US of like March 24th I believe. Meaning that the car could not be sold, or even test driven until that date. I actually got my car 1 week later...I have had now nearly 4 months,,,and still love it like the day I picked it up! I have yet to see another one on the road yet. It gets so much attention when I drive it.

And I thought I was lucky by going into the local dealership a couple of weeks ago and them telling me they had an unclaimed M60! They put in the order for one right when they opened up to see if it would go through. It did, then a month or so ago when it was getting ready to go to the port, they decided to put it up for sale, and I was the first to ask about it.

Congratulations on your luck! I'm told that mine will be one of the first M60s sold in Wisconsin. I'm excited!
You will absolutely love it! Im still looking for places (chores) to do, just to drive it,,,,and this is 4 months into owning still!

Congrats on your 60
I'm already planning shorter road trips to see friends a couple hours north of me, and a longer drive home to see family in NC later in the year. Got a friend in Ohio to go see, some friends in Indianapolis...

I just might have to drive to all of these...lol
