Hey everyone!
Does iX not have Congestion Assistant?
On iX3, when I driving on a closed road (e.g. motorway, city expressway). When the driving assistance system has been started , if the set cruising speed is no less than 60km/h, but the actual driving speed is less than 60km/h, the system will prompt ASISST Plus Ready. At this time, click the MODE key on the steering wheel, and the two LED on the steering wheel will light up green. Which means I can completely free my hands. Once the speed returns to above 60, the system will prompt me to take over the vehicle.
However, I haven't seen such a function on iX, may I ask if you have the same problem? I think this is a big software oversight by BMW.

It is in the manual - but it does not show up on my UK vehicle

Turning Assisted Driving Plus on/off
1. Press the button.
2. "Driver assistance"
3. "Driving"
4. "Assisted Driving"
5. "Assisted Driving Plus"
Assisted Driving Plus is automatically offered
when Assisted Driving is active and all functional
requirements for Assisted Driving Plus are met.
Two green LEDs are illuminated on the steering
wheel.
The indicator light is shown in green in the instrument
cluster.
The system starts to assist the driver with the
vehicle control.
Displays in the instrument cluster
Icon Description
Green indicator light: the system is active.
White indicator light: the system is
ready.
Displays on the steering wheel
The two LEDs above the keypads are illuminated
Green in the same way as the displays in the instrument
cluster:

I think iX revised the behavior of Driving Assistant Professional, combined Assisted Driving and Assisted Driving Plus, so under Assisted Driving, if the speed is low, the driver will no longer be needing to interact with the wheel for a lengthy period of time. See this video
.
In Sweden my car (5AU Driving assistant professional) drives "handsfree" in congestions up to a speed of about 10 to 15 km/h. At higher speed I need to regularly touch the steering wheel like in the video.
BMW announced a new "Highway Assist" feature for the new i7, a hands free driving mode for select highways (like GM, Ford). Does anyone know if BMW will give a OTA update for the feature to the current iX owners?

can you let me know what is FOD, Dong
is that something similar to Over the air update?
thanks
Bumping this thread…what is FOD?
I believe it means Feature on Demand — something you can add later (therefore a software only thing you pay for)… this model of certain features is used by BMW in some European countries as I understand it…
TJA worked great on the X5 (G05) - 2 hours of hands-free on one cross-country trip in a massive traffic jam on I-80. I assume the same on iD8, but it requires very specific conditions - divided highway, under 40 mph, etc. We're nowhere near L3 driving, anywhere, with any country's infrastructure right now.
Yes- Under 40 MPH, it automatically kicks over to driver assist pro - at least in the US. I was very confused myself as I couldn’t find how to turn on “pro”. I spoke with my local BMW Genius and spent about an hour going through the different features and options.

Btw - you might reach out to your dealer and schedule a session with one of the geniuses. I was very impressed. Took an hour and covered a ton of material. I learned a lot. Going back in a couple weeks to follow up with any additional questions I have.

Does the Drivers Assist Pro allow for hands free steering?

So today I had a long drive in traffic. Lots of time at 20-30mph on a divided freeway. Assisted driving plus is enabled in the menu but never once did it offer to engage assistance so I could take my hands off the wheel. I double checked my VIN and it does have Active Driving Assistance Pro on there. Driving assist worked fine all day, I just have to always be touching the wheel.

Is there some step I'm missing here?

That’s definitely the procedure. Couple things:
  1. Activating it is just taking your hands off the wheel when the “Assist Plus Ready” light is on. No buttons to push or anything once you’re already in Assist mode.
  2. Assist plus is definitely geofenced, so you have to be on a divided highway that BMW has “blessed” for it to present itself. A couple of weeks ago I had long stretches of I-5 and US-101 in CA where I used it, but smaller stretches of other divided highways where it could have been available but didn’t present itself presumably due to this reason.
I use Assist Plus numerous times on I-15 from Vegas to SoCal and has worked every time, even in construction zones. It is automatic, my choice to use based upon whether I touch wheel or not. Sometimes I touch wheel to doable, then let go of wheel and it re-engages.
It makes what would be a horrible trip to OK.

Yeah the light never comes on. I even can see the lights in my steering wheel, I know they're there...they just never turn on.

I considered the geofencing...but today I was driving 0-10mph on I-5 in Seattle and I would think that would be a major metropolitan area that BMW would have "covered". Unless it's REALLY limiting the geographic scope.
@tempo36 this might be a dumb recommendation, but did you go into the Driving Settings->Driver Assistance Menu->Driving screen and make sure Assisted Driving Plus is checked? It should look like this photo:
