Drive Recorder Activation

Hello everyone, today was a bad day. A deer hit my car. Yes, I said it correctly the deer ran into my drivers side rear door. Miraculously, there is no paint damage. Just a few dents that can be pulled out and the rear door bronze trim piece needs to be replaced. The impact was loud, and I checked the drive recorder and there was no video either though I have anything setup. My guess is that the impact was not great enough to activate it. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a certain amount of force that is needed to activate the drive recorder?

1. You need to check if the automatic recording is activated
2. I think it will record in the event of the crash (e.g. airbags deployed)
3. Hold the the "Parking" button in the center console for a few seconds to start recording manually and save the last 15-30 seconds as well (can change in the settings)

Very sorry to hear about your problem, but how does a deer hit a car from the side?!
Hope you can figure out how to ensure your Drive Recorder works when the iX detects damage.

One of the settings is to store/save several seconds of video before and after the iX detects damage.

Here's my automatically recorded video when some idiot backed into me while I was at a complete stop on a 2-lane highway. My insurance company (USAA) after reviewing the video determined I was not at fault, and the other driver's insurance paid for the repairs (roughly $13,000 to replace front finishing grill and other components). The impact was not severe enough to cause any airbag to deploy, despite the heavy damage to the front of the iX, which was still drivable until the BMW body shop received all of the replacement parts.

Happened to me in another vehicle. Deer runs out into multi lane road trying to cross. If the deer had the sense to wait for me to pass, a collision would have been avoided. Instead they kept going at full speed, and smacked into my passenger side door/mirror. I should have gunned it instead of slowed down!

@PanamaRod: That video was fascinating, in a bad way. How in the world did that idiot explain it?

Other driver offered no excuse to me. (I wasn't in the mood for much conversation.)

The road was wide open in front of him. He was already stopped as I approached, and I came to a complete stop a little more than 2 car lengths behind him. I turned on my emergency flashers to alert traffic behind me. There is a driveway to the left just in front of him, and I thought he was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before turning into the driveway. Heart rate shot up when he started to (quickly) back up. My horn had no affect. There was a county road immediately behind us, so maybe he missed his intended righthand turn. I'll never know; he left after we exchanged information and before the county police arrived (I called 911 right after the accident.) He (and his car) was insured.

The county police showed up nearly an hour after I called (right after the accident). Since it was a non-injury accident the officer told me they had other incidents to cover that morning. He said...after viewing my Drive Recorder video...that he would have ticketed the other driver for reckless driving if he was still here. He also said he would have issued a warrant for the driver of the vehicle (video had clear view of Maryland license plate) for "hit and run," but the law in Virginia permits a driver to leave the scene of an accident as long as the drivers involved exchange information (personal and insurance). Not sure of law if injury involved. Had I known the law I probably would have continued to wait for law enforcement to arrive...I did make a second call after 30 minutes...before exchanging information with the other driver. Lesson learned.

@PanamaRod: Everything about that is astonishing, including the fact that the perp was allowed to live. o_O

I was driving the deer dashed out of nowhere. I slammed on the brakes and it my drivers side door and rear door. I think it tried to stop because the damage should have been much worse. I actually had a paintless dent removal specialist repair it today.
