I think (hope) this means I've finally been able to add Active Cruise Control. Just signed up for a 3-month trial but it's still activating in the car. Will try it out tomorrow and report back! Anyone else got this add-on activated yet?

Just wanted to post an update that we did get our Driving Assistant Plus activated and it's working great. It does have Active Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assistant.

I had read in one of the forums that one reason people did not expect the Driving Assistance Professional Package (DAPP) to be available as a software upgrade was that it required the steering wheel with the LED lights to warn when your hands had been removed. However, even with the Lane Keeping Assitant, there are LED lights on the steering wheel warning if you remove your hands. This makes me wonder if in fact the DAPP package may also become available at a future point.

Can anyone confirm what the feature differences are between Driving Assitant Plus vs. Professional?

Thanks for the update.

I wish DAPP will be available in Canada. If anyone have it in Canada please let me know, thanks in advance.

I believe the Professional package adds an capability that will allow unlimited hands free operation under 40 mph (forgot exactly the cut off speed), whereas the Plus package will allow hands free operation only for a few seconds (30?).

This might be the best demonstration:

That is great to hear. Did you just go to the dealership to activate driving assistance pro? How much does that cost? Thanks

We didn't have to go to the dealership. You can activate it in the Connected Drive Store in your BMW App, in My Garage on the BMW website, or from the Connected Drive App in the car itself. We got a 3-month free trial but I believe you can purchase a lifetime subscription for ~$900 if I recall correctly.

Is this available in the USA? I took over an iX order but it was base and did not have adaptive cruise control...really want to add it if i am going to keep the car.

Thank you!

Yes, I am in the USA. You should be able to sign up for a 3-month free trial in the Connected Drive store before deciding if you want to purchase.

For those who have not yet done this, a few pointers: as per my BMW Genius, you should NOT use the APP nor the CAR/VEHICLE to download/add the app. This usually errors out and can cause headaches. It is far safer and more reliable to purchase on the BMW site. You can visit your MyBMW page (My BMW) and from there you should find the Connected Drive Store. You'll find various options to purchase, with the 3 month trial being $0.00 -- so I'd suggest this first as it is a nice/free way to trial for 90 days.

You'll have to sign some agreements on the web site, but no money or credit card is required. Once that is done, you will get some emails with activation instructions that will read:

Please note the following tips below if you have issues with activating the service(s):

We recommend performing an "Update Services" in your vehicle to refresh the connection.
This can be done by following the steps below:
Depending on your vehicle’s Model Year and Make, navigate to “BMW Assist”, “ConnectedDrive” or “Apps” using your iDrive controller.

Under BMW Assist or ConnectedDrive:
  • Open “Options” (physical button surrounding your iDrive controller)
  • Click on “Update BMW Assist”

Under Apps:
  • Click on “All Apps”
  • Open “Options” (physical button surrounding your iDrive controller) or choose the “System settings” app (Operating System 8 vehicles)
  • Click on “Update apps and services”

Once the update completes, we then recommend shutting the vehicle off and allowing a few minutes before restarting the vehicle to check the connection.
Follow those instructions. You may need to reboot the system, and/or drive the car a few feet, too. Rebooting is the LONGER hold of the volume rocker (pushing down until the SECOND time it blanks out the screen). From there you should be good to go. I've confirmed this works on my '23 iX -- YRMV, of course!

It may depend on when your car was built and what hardware is included. I can say for sure my base 2023 xDrive50 w/Sport pkg has front radar so it works. I’m not aware if all 2022 were built with the needed front radar for ACC. I would assume if the option shows up then it should work.

Got it. May I ask what package you have in your Ix?

It is a 2023 iX xDrive50 with only 3x options (Sport Pkg, Icon LED Laserlight, and Ventilated Seats). In that regard it is a “base” model vehicle for the USA (we don’t get a lower trim, just x50 and M60 here).

I see, we have ix40 in Canada. Do you have Harman Kardon speakers and 360 degrees cameras in your car?

Nope. My car is about as base as we can get in the USA. It has no front/side cameras just hte backup camera. So it lacks the forward cam, the 360 cam, etc. It also has the base speakers (no HK, no B&W, etc). It is a “decent” sounding radio, but I’m not an audiophile anyhow. For me, I was motivated by price most of all. I would have liked the rear axle steer/2axle air package, but that’s really mechanically all I really miss.

The ONLY upgrade I can see online is the “Driving Assistant Plus” which added adaptive cruise, and some of the parking features I think. I unlocked it on the day I got the vehicle so I truly don’t know what else it maybe added, but I know I wanted ACC so this was a must-have. I did the $0 90 day (3 month) trial. It showed a $950 unlock feature for the full cost, and then various in between options (30 day, 1 year, etc). Hope this data helps!

Lane Keep Assist was not part of the Driving Assistant Plus — it is not Level 2 Autonomy driving. You need Driving Assistant Professional Package, which is a different higher level upgrade. Make sure you are not confusing Plus vs Professional. The former is really just ACC (Active/Adaptive Cruise Control) and some other small features, the latter is the more focused driving. IF you have ever driven a modern Volvo, their “Pilot Assist” is like the Professional, which my ‘23 iX did not offer as an upgrade and yours may not either.
