Ok so I have an x60 arriving in 10 days for $120k USD …. I see all the issues owners have with bugs, software, hardware, complaints, near accidents with sudden steering wheel change…. Over last 5 months

My question is … ‘would you with out a doubt recommend a spouse, best friend or brother / sister buy this car tomorrow’ price neutral.

In principle, yes. Because it is an excellent interior quality and excellent sound insulation. And I also like how the car goes. And I am delighted with the audio system Bowers&Wilkins.

I have had my issues with the software in terms of lack of route planning in AU, but beyond that the car has been rock solid, so would I buy it again yes. Would I recommend it ? well no but then I would not recommend any car to anyone as its such a personal choice but would I have fear of a spouse or love one driving the car ... no not at all.
Its wise to keep in mind that this forum and the others like it are echo chambers, they house the most enthusiastic of owners and are going to be a magnetic force for anyone having an issue. If you look into a Tesla owners forum or any serries sub forum here it will be comprised of mostly complaints.

The car has had some early issues and recalls around it, I would not frame that as a failure a failure would be for BMW to have not addressed these issues. So long as the car is supported and BMW is committed to improving the software what you have coming in 10 days is one truly unique and enjoyable drive, enjoy it as its an amazing vehicle.

Yes.
I've had mine 5 weeks.

Had 2 scary-sounding but non-issue error messages pop up on screen in my time of ownership.

1)
"Component protection:
Used, not activated components detected. Some functions may be reduced. Have the problem checked by your service center."

OUTCOME: Talked to BMW Genius on phone, it was believed to be related to the sub trunk latch. I opened & closed the latch more securely, then rebooted car. Went away and not come back.

2) "Forward Collision Mitigation malfunction"

OUTCOME: My immediate suspicion was that it was because the cameras were "blinded". I was parked in a pitch dark field on the crest of a high so even with the headlights, there was nothing to see. The error popped up on startup of car. Having owned a Tesla and gotten "camera blinded" errors when driving through dark areas quite often, this was hunch.
After driving home, the error never came back on a subsequent drive. So this is probably some sort of car startup check that failed in the dark.

Absolutely! I have had the car for 5 months exactly and still look for excuses to drive the car (im 54 years old). I feel like a kid with a new toy every time I drive it and it still had not worn off after 5 months. I never had this experience with the many cars I have owned previously. I have had some minor bugs with the software, but mostly the car has run solid! I just hit 5,000 miles too

Nine weeks now, 4000+ miles. Best car I have ever driven. When in BDrive, find country roads are fun to drive like a sports car and still get great efficiency and when motorway driving with cruise control activated, it is very relaxing. Think the Harmon Kadron system is excellent. Sometimes have to wait for a charging station on long journeys……but that’s the charging infrastructure not the car. However something definitely wrong with the software with the automatic road speed limit recognition software. Many times wrongly changes from 30mph to 80mph whilst still in 30mph zone!

Happened all the time in my Audi. That's why I'm glad there's no "auto" option for speed limit sign recognition in the US - just set it on "manual" and hit the "select" button if you want to set the speed limit to the sign (and you can set it for so much over or under the limit automatically for 2 zones - under 40mph and over 40mph).

@LowCountry Any car (not just the iX) rolling from the factory in 2022 will have bugs and niggles with software etc. That's the price of having more connectivity in cars and more features and driver assistance tech thrown in to modern cars. Furthermore, you're always going to find more of these quirks when a model is early in its lifecycle.

After less than two months of ownership and 2000 km on the road my iX40 is parked at the BMW dealer waiting for a replacement board that nobody knows when it will come. Let see how it will go, however I am disappointed because first such quality issue should not be in place and second not knowing when I will have it back is frustrating.

I totally agree, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned and driven. The ride quality is so good, driving it is a dream. The interior fit and finish is excellent. I even like the external look of the vehicle. The new grill really makes the car stand out. Yes, I’ve had software issues and recently had the dealer update me to 7/2022.40 - not had any problems since. As an FYI, the software version on the myBMW app on my iPhone is still reporting 3/2022.51. ( the last OTA update I received) so it looks like the app doesn’t get the version number from the vehicle.

Until my issue with the ride quality is fixed, I can't recommend this. It seems software related, and I'm hoping to get it fixed but, with a ride quality this bad in a car meant to have a smooth ride outside of sport mode, the car isn't worth $110,000.

If it gets fixed and stays fixed, then I'll be happy with the vehicle. This is my only issue, just that it is a major one.
