My first software glitch

After a short DC charge at a ChargePoint site, I had my first software issue. The right screen was on, but non-responsive. The armrest controls were also inoperable. Driver assist would not come up, but the car drove just fine. No media or navigation available. Somewhere along the drive, distance control and wheel control came back, but no lane change. One curious thing, the phone was still connected to CarPlay, and when a text came in it would flash on the screen, but still no touch screen response. Had to listen to the phone with my headphones.

I tried turning the car off and opening the door and it did not help. I didn’t want to do a full shutdown and lock because I had a wife and two dogs in the car and we were only 60 miles from home on a long trip. Once we arrived, I shut it down, walked away, let it lock, and from a distance made sure the screens were completely off. Then it rebooted just fine. So that is the fix, the screens have to go completely off.

Sometimes the car has to complete a "sleep" cycle - about an hour usually, but sometimes longer - just like a computer, to "reset." The first thing to always try with a software hiccup is a reboot by holding down the Volume button, and you can do that while driving. That fixes well over fifty percent of most minor glitches in my experience. If the controls are inop then a sleep cycle (lock and walk away for an hour) will often fix it - as observed.

Yeah, in this case, nothing on the arm rest worked either, including that button. This had to be a total shutdown of the car. But it came up just fine after a few minutes.
