I am driving a 2016 E400 coupe and have decided to switch a electric car a long time ago. Originally I was only considering sedan since we got a SUV at home. But then I was thinking a electric SUV actually makes more sense since it is electric and would have some convenience while being practical for our daily use (another point is that e400 is kind of small for me so would like to switch to a bigger car). But I am not a fan of model y's look and holly cow it became so much more expensive than I remembered.
So I started to look around and thanks to my friend who recommended me the i4. I went to a dealer here in Bellevue WA, and found myself interested in the ix instead. Though the sales told me the wait time is 9-12 month, I was kind of determined that I like the ix.

So here is the hustle I have done. I checked BMW Seattle and was told wait time is only 4 month!!! So I placed an order with Seattle as well and try to see which dealer will actually give me earlier access.

In the meantime I found a broker in this forum and contacted them, the broker is super nice and able to find a similar car that will be delivered to NY in 2 months. I was in NYC for Labor day travel, so I considered to take that car if everything works out. But the deal breaker is that I have to be physically in the dealer when the car arrives, an early visit won't help. So considering the trouble and long time flight, I backed out.

The good news is, after I came back from NYC, Seattle dealer told me my order is confirmed!! I placed an order late Aug with both Bellevue (didn't charge anything yet) and Seattle dealer($1000 deposit charged already) the Seattle dealer told me my order is confirmed by BMW and scheduled for production the last week of OCT!!!!!

I know this is too long for a post, butI just want to share the process cause this is my first time purchasing a BMW and first time purchasing a new car!!! Kind of excited.

Not sure if there is any news reporter the production capacity for ix, will it ramp up even more later this year??

BMW Seattle told me it takes about 3 months from the production week for the car to be delivered, is that usually the case?

I ordered mine in May and got a production number in July. The car just reached the port in Brunswick, Ga the other day so I’m hoping to have it delivered before month end. Taking delivery on the west coast will likely add a few more weeks to the timeline.
‘Good luck.

Must be nice. I ordered mine in mid-July and dealer still maintains Feb-Mar time frame if I'm lucky and I asked what can I do to speed it up and was told - nussing!
Maybe check out some other dealers. The Bellevue and Seattle BMW dealers are owned by different companies, and it turned out one is better than another.

Some of it due to the shortage of chips and as a result some features have been eliminated like closing or opening the rear hatch with your foot. I have this on my X6 now and it is convenient but definitely something I can live without. There have also been some software issues that delayed my car from leaving the port for a few weeks. Just got word that my car IX at the dealership and should be ready for delivery on Tuesday which is a couple of weeks earlier than I was expecting so maybe the whole process is speeding up a bit.

Congrats!!!!
When I build the car online, the final config sheet said the tailgate function is deleted with -$100 and the lumbar support is deleted with-$175. I have chosen the multifunctional seats, so not sure if that's why the the lumbar support option being removed.

But when I got the manufacturer build sheet to confirm, the tailgate deletion is actually gone. Maybe they resolved the tailgate part issue.

I asked my dealer about the tailgate delete and according to the BMW rep my car which is being built as we speak is going to have the hands free tailgate. In addition to the passenger lumbar the only other deletion is the interior camera.

Seems like there is variability in what features get put into cars possibly based on the chip inventory at any given build. Maybe there’s a possibility of having these features added back in (for a price of course) as chip inventory levels off/

My experience with BMW Bellevue was as follows:

1. Visited in July and they loaned me their IX demonstrator for 1 hour. I was impressed but disappointed when told they sell at MSRP but order leadtime was 12 months. Told salesperson to contact me if they have cancellation.
2. On August 13, salesperson texted me with details of a cancellation, but I needed to make a quick decision. Car had just arrived and had yet to be cleaned and prepped. I texted acceptance and drove straight to dealership to sign contract. We agreed on trade-in price for my 540iX and arranged for pick-up the next day - Sunday, 8/14.
3. The car was cleaned and prepped on the Sunday morning, during which time the dealership had several aggressive offers, well over MSRP, which they declined.. I paid for and picked up the car in the afternoon and drove it home. The purchase will qualify for the now extinct tax credit.
4. The car has all the options, including B&W. I was also pleased to find that it has the interior camera and the kick-to-open tailgate, which works much better than the one we have on our Audi. The manufacturing date is May 22. The car drives beautifully.

Overall, I have no complaints about this dealership and, for me, the experience has been very positive. I don't see how any other dealership could heve treated me any better.

Congrats and you are so lucky!!!!
I was at Bellevue BMW on 8/19 and there was one cancellation as well, but I just don't like the color (exterior and interior). Also, it was the first hour I learned the existence of IX, so I didn't take it. That car was sold on 8/20. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm just wondering how, when I placed an order with BMW Seattle on 8/28, that you're already confirmed and I'm still waiting!

Not sure how the allocation worked. I placed order on 8/21. Maybe that 1 week had some order allocation cap or something. But my timeline is roughly the same as my SA told me. And I got the confirmation last Friday. Maybe yours will be soon as well.

Well there it is! Ordered 8/21 and order now accepted with a production number! Doesn't seem to have a kick to open tailgate.unfortunately! But otherwise looks great.

Thanks BMW Seattle Buddy!

I ordered the Multi-functional seats as well and that option only affects the drivers seat, not the passenger seat.
