New iX M60 owner. Former Tesla X100D. Musings.

I was the 10,349th person to reserve a Model S, but I wasn't ready for the commitment. I got my deposit back and bought a Model X 100D ~4.5 years later (2017). $113k. Great decision. Silver metallic with a matte wrap. White interior. Great car.

6 years and 40k miles later, our relationship had become routine. I was long past showing off the falcon doors and christmas lights. Teslas were everywhere in my community. I rarely took advantage of free lifetime charging. Even my kids had grown out of the "tooting" feature. OTA updates became rare, at least for my aging model.

I began to look at other cars online, privately, at night. Their range had caught up and they had high-end interiors. One thing led to another and I abruptly broke things off. I coldly turned in the Tesla last week and purchased a fully loaded, 2024 iX M60. She's faster and better looking. I haven't seen one like it at my kids' school. But while there's less drama with her parts, she's still high maintenance in her own way; so many options and modes to learn. But I do wonder, are these also gimmicks? Will I tire of tracking g forces? How long before I start using the manual scroll wheel to increase the volume instead of using hand gestures?! Will she make it 6 years like Tessie? Or get tossed aside for a new model in 36 months?

I don't think I want my Tesla back, but I miss some of its' features. I took some things for granted, like how the doors would automatically shut when I stepped on the brake (I still step on the brake then look at the M60 door like, "okay? you gonna close or what?"). I miss the chivalry of auto-opening the doors for people. Or how my gate and garage door would automatically open when I approached them instead of requiring a (gasp) button to be pushed. The Tesla also knew to begin charging when I plugged into a public stall, but waited until 12:01am at home. I think the M60 can do that (?), but only if I commit to a "departure time"? It's partly the awkwardness of learning a new partner, but while traditional manufacturers are catching up quickly, the Model X did some things really well and will always share a special place in my vehicle history.

The iX M60 is incredible. Classy interior. I can't wait to drive the mountain roads. I love having a heads up display. It's got LAFC colors. The AC works.

But I still miss "ArtemisOne". If only for her charging port being on the left.

Welcome to the ex-Tesla club. There are lots of us here.

I had the SA turn off gesture control before I left the dealership. And I agree with you about the charge port location. That's the only thing I miss about my Tesla (model S).
Welcome to the ix forum, I like your story.
The Tesla ownership experience is also known as "death by a thousand cuts". I spoke with the owner of a very high-end, busy wrap shop in town and he told me the new "refreshed" X has cheaper components than the previous generation. He said the falcon door hinges are inferior and after only a few weeks the doors start to sag under their own weight. Tesla says "within spec and normal".

Stay the hell away from Tesla. The company, its products, and its CEO are a sh!t show from hell. There's only one reason for a car company to lower prices: nobody is buying.

While I never owned a Tesla, I did test drive one with the wife, it was basically a round the block at the local mall where they have a showroom and some cars to try, I wanted to drive a model S and see how I fit in the car, but they only had the model 3, we had gone less than 100 yards before the wife said she didn't like the ride, by the time we had gone up to the main street we were both ready to take it back. First and only drive and it was not something I would not do again.

@jwegger60 That's like saying you went into BMW to test drive a 7 series, they only had a sporty riding 3 series for test drive, which you didn't find very good, and then concluded that every BMW including the 7 series would have a poor ride quality.

To be honest, the Model S and X are significantly better rides than the Model 3 and Y.

Like most people, until recently, to me Tesla was synonymous with EV. So many people don’t even know there are other options out there. So happy BMW is getting more popular as an EV alternative option.

I love the driving feel of the model S I owned for 6 years, and I loved the easy to use UI and superior phone app. Everything else is like @NomoTesla says, death by a thousand cuts. I wish some carmaker would combine the two and it would be incredible. The iX is amazing everywhere except the driving feel - seems like it was a gas car driving algorithm adapted to EVs (e.g. no option to disable creep without other consequences).
