No audio source - idrive8 no music, radio or phone

We have had our ix for a month and yesterday had a problem with the audio.
The system appeared to working as expected, profiles, phone integration etc.. However, there was no audio and the volume rocker (centre console)when scrolled displayed the message ‘no audio source’.

Thought it might be a problem with my profile, but my partner experienced the same issue when she was driving too.

Found a fix and am sure this is likely to impact others.

All you need to do is simply press and hold down the volume rocker dial in the centre console on the bmw ix until the media screen goes black (10-30 seconds) and then allow it to reboot itself, this take a minute or two once the screen has gone black.

Once rebooted the gremlin was resolved and audio restored.

Same issue with 2022 M440xi, I tried to reset it over a dozen times and still does not work. Thinking of going into a dealership nearby to get it fixed. Anyone have any luck with this?
Mine didn’t work as well then I decided to hold volume knob much longer (more than minute I believe.screen went black and it took much longer to come back, people says 30 seconds reboot which did not worked for me ) while driving which solved the issue not sure driving is made any difference or long hold was the trick
Thank you! This fixed mine!
Thanks that re set worked for my X5 :)
Can I ask what year is your X5? I tried doing that but its not working for me.

I have the same issue with my brand new 2023 X5. Just had it for 3 weeks now and I have been facing this problem from day 1 since I had the vehicle. I have called the BMW product specialist at the dealership and explained what the problem is. First couple of times of phone conversation with him, he has been blaming on my iphone telling me that the apple are having issues with their software updates on their devices. And because of that BMW vehicles are having hard time communicating with the apple devices.
I believe that many of the newer BMW vehicles are affected with the audio issue especially with X5's. Product specialist told me that he had received phone calls from 5 different customers on the same day who owns x5's with the same exact problem. So I currently I have my vehicle at the dealership to have it fixed.

Thank you so much for this post. I was struggling with this issue in my X7 - tried a few things for a day and then I found this post and this fixed it. It took 20-30 seconds for it to go blank and then the screen rebooted in another 15/20 seconds and the audio came back like magic. Surprising that such glitches are there in a car which is only 5-6 months old. Thank you for sharing this !!

Thanks a lot for sharing this I had this issue this morning and was driving me mad . Quick google search and seen this post . I followed the instructions and bingo it’s all BAU 🙏
I´m facing exactly that same problem with the brand new BMW X1 in Brazil. Most days everything works perfectly. Once in a while tho, I start the car and get that "No Audio Source Available".

There´s no audio coming from the radio, from Android Auto and even the indicators are muted. Then a few hours later everything comes back to normal.

After a few visits to the card dealer (It was hard to go there when the problem was actually happening) they figure out that a "Modulo RAM" is not working as expected and it should be replaced.

I´m now waiting for the new piece for that car that I bought only a month ago.

I´m just sharing those details here in case anyone else face that same issue that is very hard to diagnose.
