Personal eSIM availability in the UK

Does anyone know when the Personal eSIM (Wifi Hotpot) will be available in the UK? My local dealer doesn't know so I phoned BMW UK and they said that I needed to get a T-Mobile tariff (as far as I know T-Mobile in the UK is now EE so thinking about it I think she's talking about in the USA).

It does seem a bit bizarre as this is a standard feature of all new cars these days and it was one of the advertised features (5G using the car's built in aerials)

@Kevin Palmer Yes it is bizarre, but I guess BMW GB have their own reasons for not enabling it yet. From what I understand, it's available in other countries, but not here (yet) with no idea when it might become available.
I've just taken delivery of an iX40 and disappointed in the lack of eSIM despite it being listed in the specification. Fortunately it doesn't seem to affect any of the other services in the car apart from the WiFi hotspot.

Yes, I was disappointed too. As it is listed in the specification I'm hoping that it's got the hardware and as it's something that they will introduce in the UK.
Just to confirm, is this still not working for UK customers?

I have same issue with my new i7. I do think that BMW UK is misleading customers into believing that they will have the full benefits of esim in the UK when in fact it does not work in the UK without an esim reader which means that you will need to have a separate number and account for your car than the one on your mobile. It is an absolute joke.
I also can't use the eSIM it would seem. Is this why I also can't see the remote camera view when I try to see it via MyBMW?

@NikB The personal eSim functionality is not available on UK cars.

However, it does not impact the ability to use remote camera view via the MyBMW app. It works for me fine. The only time remote camera view doesn't always work is if the car is in a multi storey car park and the signal strength in the car isn't that strong.

Ok - must be another issue for me then. It says the feature isn't available in my country but according to the BMW app should be ok.
On my car the e-sim option is in the menu, and says it is 3/4 steps set-up. The 4th step is to scan a QR code which should take me to the BMW website to activate the e-sim through my mobile provider (Vodafone). Sadly the link doesn't work.

I contacted the UK Genius through the BMW chat and asked how to activate it, expecting to get a nil response. He ended up calling me to run through the current status of e-sims. He said that their system shows the e-sim as only being active for the US, Germany and China at the moment, however he was aware of customers (with i7s?) getting the e-sim enabled with help from the dealer as there is something that they can do to force the issue (don't know what though). I'll see what my local dealer/service department say about it.

I already have my Vodafone contract as an e-sim in my phone, and have no idea whether I can then also have it on a second e-sim in the iX. I guess I might have the option of getting a nano SIM to use in the BMW reader though as a fall-back.

I am having the same issue. I have a new i7 with the Cinema Screen in the back. I cannot activate esim as the option is not available in the My BMW app, I have even purchased a BMW Sim Reader and tried an O2 and Vodafone Sim and it doesn't work either - Comes up with an error: "Connection Request Rejected. Please agree to the connection request to connect your mobile device" So frustrating, adding the Cinema screen was a significant additional cost and I cant use it!

Hi my i7 gave me the exact error with BMW sim reader which I tried to use an EE sim in it.Connection Request Rejected. Please agree to the connection request to connect your mobile device". This is absolutely a joke when you buy. £135k car I’m sure bmw won’t do anything about it as it’s not yet released in the UK. Even the latest update didn’t fix the issue.
