Anyone know if the iX will allow a roof rack cross bar option? I looked at the configuration website and it looks like there are no roof rails.

If there are no rails then you can absolutely bet that some sort of integrated roof rack system accessories will be offered.

Guaranteed.

Welcome to the forum @guw.

It looks like we're getting an integrated system, as @Jon Shafer stated:

BMW iX i20 2021 Original BMW roof box 520 black/titanium silver

BMW Roof Box black/titanium silver
BMW Black/titanium silver lockable roof box, accessible from both sides with various size capacities, compatible with all BMW roof rack systems.

BMW iX i20 2021 Original BMW rear bike rack Pro 2.0

Roof Rack Base Support System.
Easily mounts to the vehicle’s roof, enabling the secure attachment of various fixtures. Made with high-strength aluminum tubing that is especially stable and corrosion-resistant. Includes anti-theft locks.

Welcome @guw! Have you placed a reservation for the iX?
Question ... pics depict rails and cargo container. will there be an option for just the "crossbars" for those that already have a cargo container that attaches to any SUV crossbar?

Also Available in Belgium for the iX.

It's too early for Thule, but as I noticed on the car, it will probably be composed by a "Thule Rapid System 754" and specific "kit" for the car.

Thanks! Been checking and had missed it being added. Ordered, although bit of lead time in UK but should come before car.

Anyone with their iX happen to have the measurements between fixing points and also the distance from back fix point to boot join? My iX looks like might come just before a holiday trip is planned so need to sort a roof box before comes.

With some luck, there is one in the showroom of your dealer...

Yes, they have the same mounts as bmw saloon cars… little flaps that pop up and then the mounts attach

In case helpful, Yakima just released their roof bar solution for iX: https://www.yakima.co.uk/vehicle-fi...022/variant/151659/combination/276909/type/Y/

Thule option hasn’t been in stock so went for Yakima myself.

Apologies for the ignorance: I've never used roof rails before on any vehicle. Can I mount them myself and are they easily removable after use?
I tho roof rails were permanent fixtures fitted by the factory but this thread suggests otherwise.
Thanks!

Easy.
There is a clips that you have to switch away.
Turn in the bolt and put the rack over it.
Fix with the nut.
To remove, just the opposite.
release the nut.
Unscrew the bolt
Swap the clips again on his place.

New to the forum. Does anyone know how/where the kayak tie down ropes would attach to the iX? It appears that lifting the hood on the iX can only be done by a BMW mechanic, so roof latches for the tie downs don't seem to be an option?

I mean HOOD latches!
For those of us in the US, here is the cheapest place I found the BMW cross bars.
