Our experience is like many others, our reservation for an iX 50 was placed at the dealership Aug 4 2022 after we test drove the only iX 50 they had on their lot…we did the build with the sales guy and gave them $1K deposit. We were told we were 40th on the list at this dealership and it would be 6-8 months…then no communication for 2 months with our sales guy. I prompted him after 60 days to keep me informed of my place on their reservation list. He was pretty detached and NOT really anxious to communicate…sales were still very strong in the fall of 2022!!
We went back and drove the vehicle again in January 10, 2023, by then 5 months later we were then 2 or 3rd . We reconfigured the vehicle, selecting final exterior, interior colors and options. We told him disregard our first build. Two days later he texted me , says they couldn’t get 22” wheels, we selected a different wheel in 21”
Out of the blue 7 days later we get a text from him…there were cancellations, ours is the next build for this dealership. He’s sending in the build sheet to the factory, please confirm it’s correct. Well it wasn’t, it was the build from the original visit…two hours of emails and back and forth he got the right build and said it’s sent to the factory.
He said it would go into production 3 days later. We did not track it.
On Feb 8, 20 days after the order was submitted it is completed and is waiting for transport to a RORO ship. Our sales guy says it’ll be here in ATL Ga. in one month.
So far, this has been a great experience as the time line has held to our original expectations, 6-8 months. I’m convinced their reservations have dropped off a lot in the past 45-60 days. Our sales guys indicates they are getting in inventory vehicles soon and reservation holders are seeing quicker turnarounds.
Looking forward to our first EV!!
