I put in an order for the BMW iX xDrive 50 back in March, and from day one I was worried about my sales rep. He made several weird statements that showed me he hadn't actually done his homework on the vehicle (eg. insisted the BMW iX is manufactured in South Carolina).

He's been incredibly unhelpful throughout this process. I usually ask him for an update around once a month and his only update is "I have no idea when we'll get an allocation... Maybe by the end of the year.".

I tried to reach out to him regarding the removal of most of the options on the xDrive 50 configurator - he said he has no idea what's happening, has no information, and can't help me, all I can do is wait for allocations and see what happens...

Does anyone know if it is possible to "move" your allocation from one BMW dealership to another while maintaining your "place in line"? There is a second BMW dealership in my hometown and I think I made the wrong choice with my original dealer.

I'm not 100% positive on this, but I'm pretty sure the allocation is tied to the Dealer and not you. If you move to a different Dealer you're starting fresh - Or maybe even better based on their allocations/demand. On 6/30 my 45e started production and I got a call from my Dealer offering me their 1st iX since the original Customer backed out so I moved from the 45e to the iX 50 - The spec wasn't exactly as I wanted and my Dealer who I love working with didn't have any allocations so I found another Dealer out of state with a unit that wasn't spoken for at status 150 - This one finished production on 9/3 and has been in QC since...

Moral of the story is that there's a bit of randomness to the process, but if you work at it you should be able to find something out there. Good luck!

I believe this is correct. I had a pre-order hit the wrong dealership with my M50 - some funky geolocating thing with the computer system - anyhow, that preorder stayed with that dealer. I had to start over with the dealer I wanted. Same goes with an order directly with the dealer. They make the order. They essentially would have to sell/trade the order with the dealer of your choice, which sounds unlikely if you are already having issues. I know this sucks, but you may be starting from scratch.

Allocations are tied to dealers. If that dealer hasn't even gotten you a build window, leave.

Frankly, if you're wanting a custom build, the best option is to put in 2 (or more) orders and see who moves you up into the quickest build slot. Just make sure they're no markup/add-on. Then cancel the other(s).

If you aren't picky, there are a few IXs available elsewhere (in transit or at the dealership).

Finding the right dealer is definitely half the battle. I had a dealer put through an allocation, give me the production number, only to pull it back 24 hours later because they "forgot" someone else was before me.

It will be quicker than you think and that is the right thing to do. If you dont get good service from one, one of the lovely things about capitalism is choice and going with your business elsewhere. Enough people do that and they may (low likelihood... but still) change their sh1te service
