Had a notice of an update today. (07/2025.51) Did it. The only change I see is that it doesn't honor the selection to not unlock at home any longer. I went in to make sure it was turned on and it was. Maybe I need to check the sat-nav and make sure my home is still set as home. Anyone else get this update?

It happened to me only the first time I walked to the car after the update. It’s like it needs to synchronize your account preferences after the update and it takes a day (or maybe a drive) before that happens.

Some people mentioned about disabling the option and re-enabling it, to refresh the preferences. I haven’t done it, but it’s worth a try.

I guess that the ideal solution would be to have both options "do not unlock when at home" and "do not lock when at home", as people have very different situations they deal with.

For anyone who parks in a secure garage and does not want the car locked, what BMW did does not help.
In our area, there's no such thing as a secure garage. The wealthier you are, the more you have a chance that someone will break into your secure home/garage and steal your car. I NEVER leave my cars unlocked, and they are all in a garage with multiple locking systems. I also keep all the car keys in Faraday boxes as they started using signal repeaters to steal the cars.

  1. You want to access the car when you are not carrying your key. I encounter this every week when I am loading up my car the night before a morning activity. I never have my key or phone on me.
  2. Your family members head out to the garage ahead of you to get in the car to go somewhere. They cannot open a door until you get there. This happens to me several times a week, and they whine about it
1) I always have my phone with me and it's very annoying to have the car lock/unlock when I walk around it to work on my other cars. With this new feature, if I need to the car to open when it's at home, I just touch the door handle.
2) All my family members have the BMW app on their phone, so this is not a problem.

The solution implemented by BMW is perfect for what I need. You should submit a request in the App for the feature that you need, if enough people need it, they might add it.

Yes, that would be the ideal, and I hope BMW adds the 2nd option at some point. In my opinion, BMW implemented the version that would benefit the fewest people. It sounds like you live in a war zone. I'm glad I don't live in an area like that.

For what it's worth...the Exclude Home didn't work for me with the .38 update. BUT, after being gone for 3 weeks, it finally worked. Also, the Automated Windows starting working again, too.

Alas, I just updated to .51 and low and behold the Exclude Home isn't working.... Not sure how many deep sleep cycles (or how long) it will take, but past experience says it probably will after many cycles over nite or several days.

Until there's an option to disable unlock on approach at other selected places (like work), I'll keep it disabled...it's (almost) pointless anyway with comfort access.

Lock on walk away is superb - I never have any intention of leaving it unlocked in any situation or place. Maybe for some people it'd be nice to have this geo-fenced too, though I've never needed it and wouldn't apply it.

I'd also like nagging phone notifications if the car is unlocked, or any of the windows are open when the car isn't being driven.

Unlock on approach disabled here for the above reasons - I hate the constant "lock/unlock" when in the garage near the car and not intending to enter it. My car is always locked when I'm not in it, and you don't need to live in a war zone - you just need to live in an area where other humans of any size, gender or description live capable of getting in your car. As pointed out, you have to put your hand in the door handle to open the door regardless of the setting, and when you do the door unlocks. The only possible benefit(s) to the door unlocking automatically are 1. if you routinely park in a dark garage/area where the pathway lighting is helpful as you near the car - it won't come on until the door(s) unlock, 2. if you routinely find yourself burdened with carrying pets, packages or relatives and you can't physically unlock the door (although you still need to physically insert your hand to open it, when it will, as observed, unlock), or 3. if said burdens (with the exception of packages) want to get into the car a few seconds ahead of you, the driver, although the door handle would present a barrier to the normal assortment of pets, with the possible exception of kangaroos, ursinae and simians.
