Hi

I am about to take delivery of a new IX, and have been asked if i want the trackstar advanced. Initially I thought it was a good idea, but does it really work with the fact that i will be able to use my mobile phone as the key?

Surely I would then have to have an extra fob at any time therefore it defeats the point of having the phone access alone?

I assume all the other data on journey history is already built into the IX?

I saw no reason to pay for this feature and decided to decline it. The MyBMW app shows me everything I need for tracking as does my iPhone.
I've included it in my iX M60 order primarily for insurance purposes. I think that many insurers in the UK won't touch a >£100k car without one, and for those that do, it can only bring down the premium. I expect to easily recoup the £500 trackstar cost over the 4 year lease through the insurance savings.

Hi, yes you will get a fob that you need to have with you in the car, so it does defeat the use of your phone as a key.

If specified on the factory order, does anyone know if the trackstar is fitted in the factory, or only by the dealer? I've looked up the spec for the VIN on my incoming order, and can't see the trackstar on there...
