Hi , my IX is turning up in the 4 - 6 weeks...

My current insurance company won't touch it currently, I have a quote from BMW (pricey). I was going to get a Thatcham CAT 5 tracker installed, as I expect that will be a requirement.

As cars are now starting to arrive in the UK. I was looking for suggestions from existing owners on what insurance they went with.

I would be very grateful for some guidance here, and I expect other UK potential owners would be interested as well.

I should have posted this in the UK forum, but it's awfully quite in there....

Directline about £600 with Trackstar S5 it was half way through the year so don't know annual rate precisely - business use 15k miles per year

I've just called LV, and yes they say a "real time tracker" but refused to define it.
I may be wrong, but I think the car can be driven off with the apple car key feature? So an S5 would break that (you need the keys with you/S5 tag). S7 may be enough for LV (as a 'real time tracker' is all they would define their requirement to me as)

Agree with you that S5 breaks the Apple Key but I'm OK with that so going for S5 tracker

Looks like I am going for the BMW S5 Tracker too. LV have put 'Dashcam' on my quote because I said I thought it had a dashcam (drive recorder). I think this is included rather than an extra from looking at the manual, but not sure if it qualifies as a dashcam for insurance purposes as isn't continuously recording... does anyone know?
Wonder if it actually makes a price difference in any case...

I just tried LV and they refused cover (online). Said they didn't cover this type of car.. Is yours a 40 or a 50?
Mine is a 50 M Sport. I rang LV because I already have a multi-car policy with them and this is an add-on. The price was fine (+£550 even without a 'no claims' because its an additional car) so I will just go with them.

I have the Trackstar S5 on mine and just pop the ADR Tag on my house keys, so it's not too obtrusive.

Mine is insured on my company policy, so cant compare costs, what was interesting was the £1100 Excess! ( 750 on top of standard policy excess). I queried it and was told "well everything is expensive on the car, so the excess is higher", thankfully this doesnt include the Glass.

OK, I've gone with LV. About £900 in the end but I set the voluntary excess to £0 as the compulsory excess is £600. I've added all the options except breakdown cover and the car is covered for two drivers, max NCD protected and covered for business driving as well as commuting and SDP. Trackstar S5 Advance fitted. LV are happy with any Thatcham approved Tracker so an S7 might do. My car is not garaged but would have been cheaper. LV also offer recovery to the nearest charge point if you run out of juice without affecting NCD,

Admiral was cheaper at £820 bur compulsory excess was £750 and their NCD protection still loses you years for 1 claim.

Me too. Although when I went to accept the quote the price had gone up and there was some shenanigans while they sorted it out. Car should be mine tomorrow (if they can get the tracker fitted in time, thats another story!)

BMW Insurance also offered but was about £1300 pa. However it did offer a better hire car and guaranteed repair by BMW repairers
...and probably better terms if write-off in first 12-months
With my previous premium cars I've chosen carefully to ensure the 'as new' policy was good - but I'm already with LV for other cars so this was a lot more convenient.

Something I learnt last time I changed my car. If apply for a quote for insurance within a few days , the price is hundreds of pounds more getting a quote for a months time (which is the max).

Even though I was just swapping the car on an existing policy I had held for 15 years, I had to take insurance at a higher rate. Then I got a quote from the SAME company for a months time, which was a lot cheaper (even taking in the cancellation fee). And cancelled the first one, and swapped. I even had to email in my NCD cert....

It was nuts. I tried to complain, but they weren't interested....

So if anyone is looking at an online quote, change the start date and see what difference it makes.

When mine arrives (no update from dealer yet). I might go with the BMW policy @MikeG mentioned, as it is a monthly 'subscription' with no cancellation fee. I might go with that for a month and immediately get a quote from someone at a lower rate...

That is another story indeed - My S5 has been fitted but the fobs do not communicate with it so Trackstar are sending some more 3-5 days wait. The dealer said expect some alerts when we move the car. Was expecting to pick up this Friday looks like it will be mid next week.

According to the Money expert 23 days before is the prime time for getting the best quote
