US M50 Order

Was just curious on other people' experience:

Order my iX xDrive50 (black exterior, aero rims, oyster interior) back on May 18th and paid the initial deposit. As of July 13th still no word on a production number/an unclear timeframe. Was told by dealership they were expecting orders around Oct-Nov but that seems pretty optimistic based on other's post.

Anyone else having a similar issue? Was thankful enough to test drive one and fell in love, just wish there was more clarity

I have a similar situation, ordered mid-May, expected delivery early 2023. Deposit submitted.

I saw that in most cases the dealers do not keep their clients up to date and we should be proactive by checking in every 2 months or so. We should receive specific order numbers to track its progress.
Any idea how the production slots are allocated to the dealerships?

Would I be better off ordering through a smaller volume BMW dealership or head to a big dealer in a large city?
That is something I'm not sure on.

The dealership I ordered from is in Solon, OH, which is a smaller BMW dealership. They seemed to have better luck getting production slots since they don't have as many orders. They mentioned they have a few coming in Sept-Oct, but not completely sure though.
I ordered a 2022 iX in late May, 2022, within anticipated delivery of 1st quarter 2023(knew there was no way I was getting a 2022. Which was fine). Early June my dealer called and let me know that I was getting a 2023 and had to re-select the packages, so I did that maybe June 14th. July was start of 2023 model builds, my car began production July 6 and is in QC at this time(July 15). I should see it maybe September sometime here in Florida. Crazy fast, not sure why, not asking. I loaded it up, I think the only thing I did not add was the massage seats.
My 2023 ix 50 with the ultimate package was scheduled for production for the second week of July. Got pushed back to the second week of September after I added the multi-functional seats option.

my iX is at the dealer right now with a stop delivery. Anybody waiting for it like this ? I went by to see it.

If I'm not mistaken I believe there is a software-related recall on them at the moment so maybe that's why.

It's also interesting to see that the 2023s are being delivered sooner than 2022s
I ordered my in early March but have not heard anything from the dealer so far.
I am calling them tomorrow.

I have a few dealerships near me, and the one I ordered from I would expect is the lower volume dealership, but I have no real way of knowing. I might just have ordered from an area where the customers of that dealership are not looking for an EV BMW. I did go to another dealership originally because the one I eventually ordered from only had an iX for demo and I was initially interested in the i4. I drove the i4 and the iX at the other dealership and found that I wanted the iX. I did not order that day, and maybe 1 month later ordered the iX at the original dealership and got a VIN within 2 weeks. It likely helped that it was early June 2022 and 2023 iX went production July 2022, but instead of next spring g(in Florida) January to March estimate, it is probable I see the car in September or October.

Where are you located?
Florida, Bradenton/Sarasota. Closer to Sarasota BMW, but not so far from BMW in St Petersburg. Ordered from BMW Sarasota

Our local smaller dealership was able to able to get an allocation quicker than any of the larger dealerships that I talked to. Place the order and deposit yesterday, they said production should start in mid-September.

Good for you. I placed an order with a large dealership in Chicago at the beginning of April, and my production is also scheduled for mid September. BMW's allocation policy will end up hurting the large dealerships.
I think dealership size may be relevant, but big or small they likely only get a given allocation. If they have few buyers interested in iX, then you jump the line so to speak, opposite of that is big or small, with high iX demand, there will be a line (you are correct captain obvious). Not sure if they will give you insight to their queue since they all want you to order through them. I actually paid to switch, i.e. had 2 on order for a very short time, thinking if I am going to wait 8 or 9 months, what difference does it make. I wanted to work with the second dealer more than the first, at least for buying. I found out literally 2 days after I ordered the second one that the first one which was still 8 months out in my mind went into production. Both dealers prepped me for the long wait, so it is still unclear to me what changed. Based on what they told me, it would have been a coin flip, but in reality, it has played out differently, at least on the build. I don't have the car yet, it is still @ the factory so assuming it clears QC, and heads to the port soon, I am still several weeks out. Much better than 1st qtr next year either way.
