BMW announced that the iX electric SUV online pre-order process has opened in Australia. A $500 deposit is required if you wish to secure your spot. It can be done on the BMW Shop website through a 4 step process. Pricing is still not available but is expected in the new year.

That's great news, lucky Aussies! Does it say anywhere if the deposit is refundable or not?

I didn't see that mentioned but its generally understood that deposits are refundable, especially when dealing directly with the manufacture. I'll be surprised if that's not the case. It does happen but more so at the dealer level.

Pre ordered my iX today (UK) 500 GBP I had a iX3 on pre order cancelled that the i3S will go it was too small and not good on long journeys, the iX3 not special enough and made in China. Now got to slowly sell it to the wife its a big car.
Unlike the iX3 pre order no price yet. the payment is fully refundable and if its anything like the iX3 there is likely to be a time limit for when the car is specced and ordered (July 2021 for the iX3).
Its going to hit the bank balance pretty hard if price indications are true, especially as for my i3S and i8 I ticked every box except E-sound

500 GBP is quite a bit more than what Australians are required to put down, just a few hundred.
Thanks for your take on those other BMW EVs. Coming from that experience, how are you hoping to spec the iX? What would make it a deal breaker for you?
I'm hoping the iX will be offered like the iX3 which has the more expensive launch model ~£64k and practically every option included just the tow bar as an option.
I hope they don't offer a basic no frills car with options adding 20% or more this makes contract hire expensive as you are paying for the extras over the contract period. as well as no better trade in when it comes to replace it. I've seen mention of a sport pack and 2 different upgrades on audio laser lights etc.Laser lights on my i8 was a £5K option

Congratulations on pre-ordering your iX @ICS_UK! Welcome to the forum! I assume you're keeping the i8 to go along with the iX?

Any specific features and options you hope will set the iX Launch Edition apart from other iX models?
Too bad BMW hasn't mentioned anything about it yet
Please keep us posted if you find out anything!

That is a very cool choice, what made you go with a Carlton? I'm sure you've had a blast owning it over the past 27 years,
In the early 90's the Lotus Carlton release was slammed by the police they wanted it banned, 176mph 0-60 under 5 sec 0-120 14.5 sec

Being a Vauxhall fan at the time had to get one insurance for a 40 year old £2000 now £80 a year, had to have a tracker fitted car thefts were rife at the time, had 2 theft attempts on mine

Only got pulled once 118 in a 60 limit 3 week ban !

Stunning car to drive never got bored with it - not really got the time nowadays to keep it going

I would probably have done the same thing if i had that car 😂. I didn't realize there was such pushback for it.
