exactly, saw this, my friend got a Model 3 with this problem and they wanted him to pay like 10k or something and they were blaming him that he might hit a kerb or something at high speed and that it couldnt be a manufacturing issue bla bla, it was his only car and he was a Tesla hardcore, he end up paying the repair and sold it
I read about an owner who had less than 200 miles on his brand-new car and Tesla accused him of abusing the car and it being his fault. Was this your friend? I would have sued.

you know what? I just read that news, damn is exactly the same thing that happened to him, no it was not him but he didnt knew this was a thing. Wow…. I mean I dont know if he can sue now, but he paid the repair, there was no option else the car was going to be left there unable to move.

I have a member of my Tesla group that experienced this same exact failure almost immediately after taking delivery. Tesla quoted him over $14k to fix and he's taking it up with his car insurance. Tesla's behavior is beyond the pale. When I bought my Model S in 2013 Tesla went out of its way to make sure customers were happy and satisfied. Service was exemplary. Today, Tesla service is among the worst of all car brands with a general philosophy of blaming the victim to get out of expensive warranty repairs.

This will probably be my last post (unless I get a lot of criticism --which probably I will LOL). I was actually one of the first to take delivery of the BMW IX 50 in the US. I received the car about 5 days after it was legal to sell in the US (March 27 2022). For anybody that has read my old posts, I was part of the early battery recall. As a result, I decided to Lemon Law (LL) the car. My previous posts describe the entire process and events leading up to the LL. I surrendered the car and completed the process on December 12th 2023. I originally was planning to get another BMW IX 50, however they don't come with air suspension any longer and I really did not want a IX 60. Additionally, during the LL process, I noticed that the price of the Tesla Model X had dropped considerably,,,Enough so that I decided to switch and purchase a Model X. I have had the car 1 month now and wanted to share my experience so far comparing the two cars:

1) Charging network--obviously this is one of the biggest pluses. I live in a high rise and don't have access to traditional overnight charging. I do live close to EA charging stations. Actually two different ones. Durning my ownership, both stations constantly had broken chargers. Even after they were upgraded to hyper chargers. I constantly had to wait to charge. The data between the phone app and the cars built in app never matched and both were inaccurate (in terms of broken chargers and available chargers). I found this to be more than a local problem, as I had taken the car on a 3,000 mile road trip (Oct 2023) and had consistent availability and reliability issue during the whole trip. I realize that everybody is eventually going to switch to NACS, but its going to take awhile and I don't want to wait.

2) Build quality--This was a big one,,,and I went it with my eye wide open and low expectations (on the Tesla). The BMW by far has better build quality,,,fit and finish. I had realized that going in to this and would have never even considered looking at this car when it was almost $140K. It does not have have build quality of a $140K. Heck, even at $79K its still a stretch,,,however, its a little easier to deal with at this price point.

3) Ride quality- This was the biggest issue for me by far! I test drove the car several times. Going into this I had the expectation and awareness that ride quality would,,,well,,,,suck. It's not great, but far better than I set my expectations. I having the car sound insulated to help with some issues. The real issues for me are when driving over 65 MPH. To my surprise, the Tesla (at least not yet) does not squeak or rattle. However, you can tell driving it that the fit and finish is not even close to the BMW,,,but I can live with it,,,,so far. I really do miss the complete silence when driving at high speeds on the freeway, however, local around town driving is just as quiet.

4) Technology- Easy one here. The Tesla app is light years ahead of BMW. Without getting into all the details, what always surprised me the most is that BMW literally had nearly ten years to evaluate and copy some of the best tech features of the Tesla and didn't. Things like dog mode, auto closing windows when you walk away. Remembering seat position and easy entry....Even simple things like Screen Clean Mode and Car Wash Mode....I just don't get why they didn't implement these things. The IX was supposed to be built to be able to be software upgraded,,,,Since my IX (fully loaded at delivery), was considered an earlier model,,,I was unable to upgrade to park assist --despite have all the necessary prerequisites for it. I was told the "head unit was too old LOL....This is a brand new car from the ground up!!! That's laughable.

5) Design and minimalism---Im getting used to it. We also own a model 3 (for 1 year) and have had not issues so far. Having a display in front of you really helps out, but having to either use the touch screen or voice command does take some getting used to. Even things like opening up the glove box requires either a voice command or the touch screen. However, that still beats trying to located the BMW glove box button at night constantly pressing and guessing where it might be. I do love the location of the cup holders and wireless charging in the Model X...Its seems so normal and natural. The IX has such an awkward location and orientation for these things that I never got used to or even understood. Storage is much better on the X. The center console has so many options and room,,,as well as having the frunk (which really comes in handy when you pick up Chinese food and don't want is stinking up the car!)

6) Lack of stalks. Not to crazy about this one. Im slowing getting used to it but would still prefer the old way. I do hate the fact that the horn is not in the traditional location. This has already been an issue twice with me as I was unable to find and press it quick enough,.

7) Self driving- I didn't make my decision based on this however, both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. I do miss being able to correct the auto pilot steering without disengaging it though.

8) Service--No experience yet, however, I live less than 3 miles from a dealership and my Model 3 has been fine for the last year.

Anyway, So far I feel good about my decision,,,maybe not as time goes by, but we already own a model 3 for a year so I kind of know what to expect. I really do miss the highway ride quality but the other features really balance things out for me....Im sure NomoTesla has got some comments for me LOL, but we all have to make our own decisions. I wish to bid farewell to all the BMW IX owners and Happy New Year as I now sign up for the Tesla Forums.
It sounds like you made the right choice. The same i would have done in your situation. I have been happily driving an iX50 for 2 months now, and am a former owner of a 2021 Model S (with the yoke with horn and turn signal buttons) and 2016 Model X.

No comments from me! I'm happy you are happy in a Tesla. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about. I'm thankful to Tesla for pushing the industry so that we have more options. Different strokes for different folks. Nothing gratifies me more than seeing a variety of EVs on the road. My biggest gripe with Tesla is that they should make better cars. They have the capability but their priorities seem screwed up because of their mentally unfit CEO.

Elon should have done LSD and Mushrooms sooner
Look at Steve Jobs. No one has complained about Apple making shoddy products :love:

Funny - I'm selling my Model S because it's too low to be comfortable for me and my wife. I was all set to go with the iX 50 (I even posted a separate thread about this) -- first time I drove the car, I thought it was comfortable -- then drove it again this weekend (same seats - 'multi-contour') and found it not-so-comfortable. Drove another one yesterday and adjusted the lumbar - it was better, but still not great. Drove a new model X, and I find those seats much more comfortable.

I didn't notice big differences in the ride quality between the iX and the Model X. And, while the iX has great lease deals, despite all the reviews that indicate that the X has a harsher ride and the iX is more comfortable, I'm finding the opposite (at least in terms of comfort - not necessarily in ride), and I find myself leaning back towards the model X. I'm a little puzzled about why my perceived comfort in the iX has changed - but I guess to each his own!

Do you know if the one you drove had the air suspension with 21’ wheels? I came from a Tesla Model X myself and I really objectively feel like the IX air suspension is much more comfortable in every way. I wish you lived near me so we could’ve gone shopping together, and done some cross comparison!

Also the monthly lease price is so low on BMW compared to Model D!

I drove one (an iX 50) without the air suspension, and I drove an iX M60 (by default comes with the air suspension). The M60 was better (and the car I have a deposit on - that I need to decide on - has the air suspension), but still not convinced. I REALLY want to go with BMW -- I was a long-time BMW guy before going to the model S - and the lease incentives are crazy right now -- but not sure. (And, btw, your profile says you're in Los Angeles - so am I - so we actually are near each other :))

We're really splitting hairs here, but even with air suspension, the M60 is tuned a little stiffer than the iX 50, you can feel the difference. Also the M60's are usually on 22' wheels. (One of these days I'd like to do a scientific test, but the combination of M60 tuning and 22's feels about 40% stiffer than the iX50.)

For the most luxurious ride I'd recommend an iX50 on air suspension and 20' or 21' wheels. This would feel more like a Merceds S-class where they are optimized for cushiness. With BMW, there's a clear tradeoff for more sportiness and better handling in the M60 for sure.

For our daily drives in LA we rarely get to experience spirted racing through the canyons and twisty mountain roads like those iX owners can often do other cities. Even Texas has those long empty freeways where you could enjoy the "fun" of an M60 more than we can in SoCal. To really take advantage of the stiff suspension, I had fun driving an M60 in Palos Verdes and through the Malibu mountains and it's amazing, but for daily driving I prefer the "less capable" iX 50 on 21's.

Thanks for your detail notes. Actually, I am also considering to switch from iX to Tesla model X so your comments were very helpful.

Bruce, which model iX do you have? Do you have all the options such as Highway Assistant and Air Suspension?

From the other thread, I assume you are big fan of self-driving technology right? The Tesla FSD wins there, but the BMW ADAS system is quite capable, and the BMW is better in almost every other way.

I traded my 2022 Model X for a BMW iX back in 2023, and I'm super happy about the decision. But I love to test out Tesla FSD from time to time because I love seeing the technology progress. But I couldn't make it that my daily driver now that I'm spoiled by BMW! )

One more important thing is the cost to own a Model X is pretty darn high compared to a BMW. I just looked on the Tesla website and to lease an MSRP $85K Model X with 10K miles/year for 36 months and no money down would be more than $1,500/month. A well-optioned BMW iX can be had in ~$900/month range! Huge difference there in cost of ownership too!

My 02¢… If you are thinking Tesla from iX, give the Model S a long look. Because of it‘s hatchback design, it has the same use case as the iX. And it has more “real” rear storage space than the iX. The S is a lot more efficient with longer range, and it is a lot more conventional than the X (those doors are either awesome, or not, depending on the vibe you want).

I have all the options on my iX that you have mentioned above. I also agree with your comments about iX better than model X in many areas. I just wish that iX has the FSD "like" capability and it will make my dream car.

Yeah , I want a car that doesn’t loose the steering wheel or the soldering joints on the wheels don’t fly off loosing a wheel, or keep you trapped until they send a technician to let you out of the car.
I placed a pre order of the level 3 when it came out and every time there it was evident the poor craftsmanship, lack of finish for such an expensive car. Exaggerated range and really unreliable.
I haven't heard of this Tesla issue, but it's not hard to believe people hammering on a car with 1000lbft of torque is going to stress components. Combined with vehicle weight, components need to be very robust.

My 2015 Model S needed an alignment every time I had it checked for the first 3 years or so I owned it. They eventually fixed the issue. The issues with plaid versions could understandably be worse.

Tesla knowingly installed main system chips with a finite amount of write capabilities for over 5 years and tried to get away with it. Thankfully the government stepped in and Tesla refunded me a year later. My Model S had three main computers in the five years I had it. One for a bubbling screen because they used the wrong glue and the other for being bricked. The third screen was still acting weird since they used refurb parts. After the Model 3 came out, getting service in any timely manner was impossible. I heard stories of sunroof components failing but the early models weren't compatible with the new so it was a costly repair. It seems Musk runs his companies the same...cut corners and rush products. If it happens to blow up, oh well, we will learn so much! I never was a Musk worshiper and since he's gone off the rails, I will never own a Tesla again.
