Anyone using this? It's stopped working for me today.

I'd seen reports over the last month that BMW were removing any 3rd Party access to their API that was able to make changes to the car. I had rather hoped that the status of sensors would still be accessible. They seem not to be.

So, for me, I use it for only a couple of simple things.

My electric provider’s charging process involves me telling it what %age charge I need to add. The provider then creates a schedule.

It’s useful that the HA automation I wrote, checks the SOC of my car and then using the electric provider’s API, does the maths for me by setting the correct percentage (assuming 80% target).

Another thing I use it for is to plot my journeys on a map for the previous 45 days - helps me remember where I’ve been when I come to do an expenses claim.

Oh a third thing is I can get an alert if I’ve left a window down.

@jono987654321 Thanks! For me, the 3rd thing would be super helpful, as I've noticed that even if one of the windows is slightly open, and I arrive home, but forget to close that window, then the car will lock and the alarm will arm, without notifying me on the app that my window is still open.

It's only if I subsequently open the MyBMW app would it show that a window is open, but that isn't a natural step when I arrive somewhere, so I will check out home assistant now.

Have remembered another HA feature I make use of for the BMW - if the SOC is below 60% & it's unplugged, I get a notification at 8pm to remind me to plug the car in. This is announced over the Alexa devices I have.

Edit: I wish I could remember everything all at once! Another use I get from the integration is being able to see the state of the car, locks, charge target, plug status etc. on the PC screen - something that can't be done with the tools that come with the car

I use Home Assistant extensively:
  • to set a different charging Immediate vs scheduled on the weekend because I have off peak electricity on the weekends. etc. see below
  • 1 tap on apple watch (with a siri shortcut) to enable climate control instead of their barely usable apple watch app
  • track my mileage over time, tire pressure etc
Basically it lets you do things that aren't supported by the app (as long as the functionality exists in their API) and alot of things I missed coming from Tesla.

Mine is broken now too you can see :( I hope someone comes up with a fix soon and/or BMW stops being dickheads about pennies worth of API usage per month on their $100K cars...

Update. Looks like someone made a workaround for BMW being dickheads

The only way BMW can prevent people from accessing their APIs in reality is to turn them off and get rid of their moble app. 🤣

Where there is a will there is a way...
