Update: Got the car back from the dealer after a week and their conclusion was they didn't hear any excessive noise even though the foreman drove with me when I dropped it off and agreed it was noisy. I had also asked them to look at the clear rattling coming from the steering column area and they said they couldn't replicate it either. needless to say that I can hear it 90%+ of the time I drive the car. I'm so frustrated Going to call BMWUSA Monday to see what I can do to at least get rid of the rattling around the steering column and the rattling from the back where the cargo cover is. I don't even care about the wind noise because the other two are just way too annoying Anyone with recommendations?
The steering column noise is starting to drive me crazy. Before I start taking things apart, have you had any resolution? I also had the rear cargo noise at first, but it weirdly seems to be gone at least after a couple weeks.

Yea the second dealership actually acknowledged the problem and said there was something loose inside the column area so they put extra padding in and that seems to have solved the problem but its only been a couple days. they also noticed the front strut was not working well and may have been contributing to the noise so they ordered the parts but it won't be in till next week so we'll see if that changes anything.
Don't back off when the dealership tells you they don't notice anything. it's absolute garbage. I am disappointed enough with BMW quality and service that this will be my last BMW.

Hello everyone,
New poster, long time reader. I got my 2023 iX last week and have been enjoying it so far. My one issue is it seems unusually noisy in the cabin when I drive and I’ve read nothing but how quiet the iX is so trying to figure out if there’s something wrong with mine.
In slow traffic, I can hear cars idling next to me or driving by. There’s also some road/wind noise. On the highway, there’s quite a bit of wind noise as if there’s a window open.
I come from an Acura so this seems unusual. I could swear I had less noise in my Acura than my 100k iX.
I had dealer check it out and they say it seems normal but this hardly seems normal

anyone have any thoughts?? Is this normal?

Are you sure the noise you heard is not from radiator fan? I had similar experience before.
AC is off, no music, no fake engine sound, all windows are closed. iX is very quiet so it makes other noise more obvious. I did this on purpose to measure the overall noise level as part of joyful ride experiement on all EVs. The tire noise is the most obvious sound. Some wind noise or nearby vehicle noise. All are expected. i7, iX, EQS 580 with laminated glass and Lyriq are the quietest production car on the market today. i7 is the best because its heavy door frame sealed better than iX's frameless design. Even with laminated glass, EQS somehow lets some noticable tire noise slipped into the cabin. Jaguar I-Pace also has laminated glass, but its noise level is higher than Lyriq. Noise Cancelling doesn't prevent your ear from hearing road noise, it emits wave frequency to filter out them while music is playing. GV60, Lyriq, and Tesla have those but their cabin are more noisy. I perform the same test with my noise cancelling headphone on while driving. Even with that on, there is still some level of noise if you really pay attention too.
During the 1st month when I drove my ix, I can hear relative louder fan noise. Probably from the radiator to cool off the high voltage battery and whatnot. I don't know this is epected or not because the outside temperature is at least 20 degree higher now than my 1st month of ownership and I didn't hear any fan noise at all for very long term. There is no indication anywhere in the console to show any malfunctions whatsoever since day one. The only noticable difference is SoC of main battery then was above 80% and I haven't charged my battery above 70% to fight off calendar degradation during hot summer for awhile. I don't know if that matters.
The fan noise can also be heard if I am inside the garage with no other external noise. Of course. the fan noise was totally gone since the first month or so.
Does anyone havve similar experience with the fan noise?

Has anyone noticed that when driving the IX below exactly 24 mph, you hear a motor winding sound inside the cabin. This is not the Pedestrain waring artificial sound, (as it's distinctly different, can not be heard inside cabin and that stops at 18 MPH). I can hear The artificial Ped warning usually in my parking garage when poke my head out the window at slow speed. Its very different that the cabin sound. I hear it on acceleration and deceleration as well. It's very noticeable unless radio is on of course. It almost sounds like the regen motor working, but I also have a Tesla M3 and this sound is not present at all. Since I live in a high rise with a parking garage and my M3 definitely has a lower Acoustic PED warning than the IX. However, once out on open roads above 24 MPH the IX is much more quiet.
I noticed this sound and like it. It's like the artificial sound generated from the "Digital Art" mode except it's on extremely low volume and the sound is real and organic. The e-motor is spinning and vibrating inside a halo aluminum motor chaisis with very subtle taste.

Did you ever figure it out? I have wind noise on the front right seemingly from the front passenger window, but I need someone to ride with me to further pinpoint the spot.

Are you thinking there might be more soundproofing or less? Mine has the HK system and is already so quiet that it’s hard to know how it could be quieter. I don’t think you need to worry about background noise, whichever audio system you choose.

Wheels and tyres probably have the most effect on cabin noise, although I test-drove 22s then ordered 21s and can’t really say I notice a difference.

So what is the explanation? Just differences in perception by different users? (i mean the same engine version, same tires)

By the way it is unthinkable to me that an electric car does not use acoustic side glass…

For example, that some people are more sensitive to certain frequencies. I don’t know how else to explain such different opinions about the same car…

Hit the mic button on your steering wheel and say "turn off iconic sounds".

Did you ever resolve this. Did you have ceramic tints? Those with a quieter cabin, did you have your windows tinted?
