I m possibly the unluckiest then as I just got IXM60 couple of hours ago, just total of 107km on the car and the same message came for drive train and high voltage!!!

Does the dealer give you a loaner comparable to yours or you just are left with no car for weeks!!!

So here's an update on the above. IX50M broke down on Dec 24th 2022.
Dealer looked at it on Jan 4th (when they reopened)
Loaner provided was a 2 year old 740e
Issue is 'connecting brushes are faulty and need replacing'
Part needed was on back order from Germany - 2 week delay
Part arrived - but garage now needs specilist tool to fit part. Only one tool in the UK so have ordered tool from Germany 3-4 weeks of delay
Feb 15th 2023 - still no repair, still no loaner IX, still no compensation for costs
Beware!

Hi, I too have "High voltage" and "Drivetrain" issues 3 times already and was taken to dealer. One time they changed a few parts and last time they just say, unbelivable, DC fast charge not compatible. Check out my post at

It really is ridiculous blaming and suggesting not to use the DC fast charger they provided for 1 yr free. Anyway, i'm going to stop using DC fast for a month see if the same error shows up.

Hello,
I’m really disappointed with my new BMW IX 2023 purchase. The car stopped on the road with the drivetrain malfunction. The reason I did not buy a Tesla, but instead a BMW was for the quality expectation. Alas that did not turn out to be the outcome.

I had the same issue. Had the car for 13 days then it just stopped with the drive train warning. It's been with bmw for 4 weeks and they claim it's a minor issue. Horrible service

My 2023 IX that I purchased in March just had the same problem. Drivetrain issue, stopped and would not move. I eventually got it to go again. It said Drivetrain: you can still drive. But it completely stopped 6 times trying to get it to the dealership about 8 miles away. I am waiting to hear form the dealer.

Looks like the same issue. Do keep us updated on how they are handling it. Hope you don't go through the same ordeal I had to go through.

Sorry to hear that. Here are some issues other owner experienced with the generic drivetrain error message.

Motor brush debris from manufacture

Battery HVAC malfunction

Excessive moisture detected in the HV cable

2 recent recalls
23V449000
23V295000

I still wish to have a BMW ODBII device for iX so we can at least decode some of the issues ourselves.

I took delivery yesterday of a new 2024 iX M60. Car shut down three times while in motion. Each tie the car just coasts with system off. The first time I under going less than 30mph as I was approaching a stop light. Brought the car to a stop blocking traffic. Pressed start button, car started but would not go into drive. Pressed off button. Went through this three times. Finally car went into drive mode. Within 15 minutes car again shut down while going 70mph. While coasting, I pressed the start button then engaged drive and car was back in control. Also at 70mph did the same again about 30 minutes later. In each case, it did not appear to be any sort of emergency reaction. I also have a 2024 iX 50 that I have been driving for several months. This second car has never exhibited the same behavior.

Posted on the other thread but this happened three weeks ago to my 2024 ix 50 that I got in July. Had drivetrain error and red wrench and received error approaching a red light after coming off highway. Car had power but kept going to standby mode. Would then turn on but wouldn’t shift out of park.

About 30 minutes later of sitting in traffic the car finally went into drive and I limped to work and had it towed. Did get a comparable iX loaner and BMW gave the dealer a software update to upload after about four days. So far so good.

Very similar to my experience a few days ago. Dealer said BMW downloaded some software but really the explanation was pretty vague. The software download sounded like they were shooting in the dark. Not confident dealer or BMW know what this problem is. When it happens at 70 miles an hour in Thanksgiving traffic it was not something you want to repeat.

Ugh sorry to hear. Yes I agree not the most confidence inspiring “solution.” I’ve driven another 400 or so miles since picking up without any further issue but it’s in the back of my mind if it’ll happen again.

I have exactly same problem with my 2023 ix 40 in Hong Kong. Got drivetrain failure and a red wrench warning. I am getting it towed to BMW for check. Don’t know how long it will take. Didnt expect this quality issue with BMW. What I read here concerns me because If BMW replaces some part, it will most likely be replaced by the same part from same manufacturer. Has anyone faced the same problem second time?

iX customer from UK. I have 2024 March delivery, completed 4000 miles and today while on my driveway ready to start to go for a journey, started the car and Messaage appear “Drive train error” with STOP Hex sign. this is the first time it have appeared but now reading the message I am worried and seems going to Dealer is better option.

This is exactly what happened to my 2023 IX. Had to toe it to BMW service centre. They replaced the CCU (Charging unit). From the service documents I found out that it was actually a recall. BMW never contacted me so basically they want to replace the expensive CCU only when someone stalls on a highway.

Thanks for feedback, I have contacted BMW service team and they have booked me in 2 months out as that is the earlies they can. Also after 3 hours, i tried to start the call again and the message (“Drive train error” with STOP Hex sign ) vanished and the car started running normally. Provided this information to the BMW service team, the feedback from them is - run the car as normal but keep an eye if this message comes again, call BMW assist -UK number 0 800 777 111 and they will help.
